Keeping Corns Out Of There Tanks ?

SamPike

I Want More Snakes
Hi all.

I was just wondering. I loooove holding my snake, I told him as often as I can. (I have just been hold him) But how long can I keep him outta the tank? as long as I like ? Or does it matter or what ?
Because they obviously need the heat, but how long can they hack not being in the heat? And I like in england so its not the warmist country hehe.
Help would be "Helpful" hehe.

Sam...... :D

as long as they aren't digesting a meal, they'll be fine at room temp. If he starts getting pissy put him back, he'll be fine.

you're body heat counts for something too. As long as he isn't digesting, or it isn't too cold out, he'll be OK. How long were you thinking? A few hours? half a day?

No No, Jus like an hour or so, thats all. Altogether I suppose I hold him for about 2 hours a day. So I guess thats not to bad ?

Have you just recently acquired the snake, or is it already well adjusted to your home?

If you have had it only for a few weeks, I would limit the time holding it, and increase slowly over the next month. But if you have had it for a month or more and it is feeding well, with no problems at all, then you should be able to handle it for a couple hours a day. If the eyes go blue, you might want to limit handling until he sheds, as the skin is sometimes delicate at that time and subject to tears. And some snakes are not in a good mood and get stressed out at shed time. And if you ever see any symptoms of stress, such as not eating regularly or a regurge, you should limit handling until he is "normal" again. Other than that, he should be fine.

He is well established in his tank, is eating 4 pinkies a week with no problem at all. So I think he should be fine. And when he sheds it is all in one, so I dont think I have a problem :D

Whoa, that's way too many prey items IMO... if he's capable of holding that much food in his belly, you need to move him up to fuzzys! They are better nutritionally anyway.

As a general rule, once 2 items of a particular size are not enough, it is usually time to move up to the next size. Try not to increase more than about 1/3 or so of a jump in size (or weight) of items at one time. For example, if you were feeding a total of 10 grams of mice and it is not enough, try to go no higher than maybe 13 or 14 grams in one jump. After several feedings, if it is still not enough, do another jump by another 1/3 or so. You don't want to overtax his digestive system if he is not used to it. It could cause a regurge.

If you can't get the exact size you want, you could always give one pinky and one fuzzy. Or if they are f/t, you can cut them in half to achieve the proper amount of food.

I got told by the pet shop I bought him from that they were feeding him on 2 pinkies twice a week and they had been feeding him on those for a little bit before I bought him.
He is not big enough for Fuzzys as yet, he needs atleast another month on Pinkies before he will be ready for Fuzzys.
He has also not regurgated any of his food in the 6weeks I have had him. He is eating everything fine. The guy I bought him off has also seen him since I have had him and he agree's with keeping him on Pinkies ?

If you are feeding two pinkies twice a week, taking into account digestion times. How can you hold it for an hour every day?
