Late night cat invasion!

kathylove

Pragmatic & Logical
I had an "interesting" night last night. I woke up at 3:30 a.m. to a loud cat scream! Sometimes my older cat ("Monster") will pounce on the 2 younger ones when they play too roughly, and one of them will scream and run away. But he doesn't really hurt them - just scares them.

So I got up to investigate and make sure they were all ok. Imagine my shock when Monster was growling loudly and an unknown cat suddenly raced out from under the desk, making a break for the cat door! But he didn't remember exactly where it was, so crashed into the window and the blinds instead. He ran back under the desk until Monster again chased him, crashing into the window again. As you might guess, I was quite awake by then!

So I went to the nearby back door, propped it open, and chased him towards it. He seemed happy to use the exit to the screen porch! Next I opened the screen door and chased him out the door. He moved so fast that he wasn't much more than a blur! Our cats are allowed on the screen porch, but not outside. Obviously there was a place to gain entrance to the screen porch, and thus the cat door into the house. But I sure didn't see where it was. (Hubby found it and patched it this morning).

The whole time, Monster put on a great show of spitting and hissing, with the intruder screaming a few times. But I don't think they actually touched each other. The 2 younger cats stayed as far away as possible, with the youngest hiding for the next couple of hours before creeping into bed with me.

Needless to say, I didn't get to sleep right away - took until 5:30 a.m. Glad I didn't have to wake up early! But I finally fell asleep and had a dream that cats were coming into the house from broken a/c / heating vent. And a really cute Himalayan kitten appeared. So it wasn't too bad, lol!

BTW - hubby slept through the whole thing. In the morning, he said he did hear some cats fighting, but figured I was taking care of them, so just slept peacefully.

As I said, an interesting night!

Wow, that's nuts! I'm sure you'll be able to sleep more soundly now that you know you have a guard-cat keeping the house safe!

Sounds like quite the adventure!
We have a stray who has been hanging around our yard lately. When my cats see him through the windows they get all worked up hissing, growling, spitting, yowling and puffing up to the point they start scaring each other. But no way for him to get in or mine to get out so I shouldn't have to go through anything like your fun from last night!

Actually, I had a good clue a week ago...

...when the kitties were chasing a little sparrow type bird around the house. They had brought it in from the cat door, so it obviously got into the screen room, too. But I thought there was probably a tiny hole up high someplace that it had gotten through. I should have had Bill take a good look back then, lol! I just didn't look up high enough - it was quite a large space above my head where he built my new reptile room roof.

BTW - the bird got away from them, and I caught it and released it outside. It seemed to fly away just fine, so hopefully wasn't damaged. They often find a cricket or other bug to bring in, and once in a while a lizard manages to get into the room and is fair game for them. But never before anything as big as a bird - or stray cat! And never again - I hope!
