Leo Gecko URGeNT advise needed.vet maybe?

Pet Corn Snake

New member
Hey, I have tried about 4 forums now and no-one is giving me a direct opinion on my new leopard gecko nanci.
A few days ago I noticed a small lump on her belly and it's not going down, I have been worried about this, but she's eating, sleeping, drinking and doing everything fine..

Someone suggested it might be impaction, because the petstore kept her on woodchippings...

Anyways heres some pictures, if you can give an opinion then PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do.

This might be okay, but it might be serious too... :/

Is she pooping? That is the main concern here.
Try giving a soak in warm water and see if that helps her.

It's hard to guess by a photo, I'd recommend a vet visit. Given it location (upper chest) I can only think it's either a) cyst/tumour of some sort or b) a broken bone.

I'm not a vet, but if one of my gex had a lump like that I'd take it to one to have it checked.

Thank you.
I just moved to a new area so I have no idea where I could find a vet :/
I can look around though..

And no, she aint pooped for a week :/

Since leos need fed every other day, they poop often aswell. I would DEFFINATELY seek out an exotics vet, even a regular vet and get Xrays done asap... better safe than sorry.

Thank you.

Before you take her to the Vet, give her a good soak in tepid warm water. This may help her pass what ever she has through her bowels and also save you an expensive vet bill.
This will be the first trick the vet does before doing anything else. So let your little guy soak for about 30 minutes and see if that does anything.

Are you sure it isn't her sternum (breast bone)? Is it directly in the center, with her ribs springing off of it at the bottom?

I meant to add, can you go to a store and look at other leos and see if they also have it, maybe just not as prominent?

Thanks Nanci, I actually suggested this first on another forum, because she looks abit thin for an adult and therefor it could be the reason the bone would stick out.. I suppose that's possible, but she still aint pooped in 8 days of me owning her, which led me to believe it was impaction.
I will try and give her a warm bath, and if she passes a poop and the lump is still there, I'll have to consider that it might be her bone..

She's not acting strange or anything :/

If it were an impaction and she hasn't pooped in that long, she would probably be vomiting too. What comes up must go down, and if it can't come down... well it's gonna come back up.

Do they ever recommend a drop of olive oil to get things moving for leos like they do for dragons?

Thank you, leos are okay to bath right? You own any?

thanks

only 10 adults.

If worse comes to worse, see if you can take her back at the shop. Here in the states, you typically have 15 days depending on the store. I just don't recommend keeping an animal in bad shape after just buying it. I have been there already and put the animal down. Plus to be honest, you just got her and now you need to take her to the Vet? That shouldn't be right.

Now if your leo is truly impacted it will not eat and its tail is going to look very thin.
Now is she eating for you?

That's for sure true of humans! I see it, personally, nearly every day! Does the lump move around, or is it fixed? Does the rest of her belly feel soft?

I had a female leopard gecko that ultimately died of an egg impaction. This is definitely not one of those, but if they are impacted in any way shape or form, there will be a lot of vomiting, anorexia, and rapid weight loss.

Same thing goes for dogs and cats as well. I've seen a few intestinal obstructions in reptiles and dogs and cats and the symptoms are always the same. Vomiting, rapid weight loss, dehydration, and lethargy.

She was in the bath about 25mins and did not poop.
However, after the bath I held her up towards a light and could see pretty much her entire insides.
It really does look like part of her chest bone.
I'm not sure how to move on from here, these are my options;
Take her to the vets "although having to take an animal I just bought to the vets is a little frustrating"
"returning her to the petstore "again, this would not be a easy trip.."
or, watching her closly and hoping she continues to eat, even in small amounts.. And then poops "however then it could be too lait to return her if she stops eating completely and is infact impacted"

:S:S:S

I agree that it looks like the sternum, even the direction of the diagonal down pointed shapes above it look right.. But the no pooping part is worrisome. Have you talked to the shop about returning her/him? You wrote in quotes that it might be too late to return? Was that what they said? There should be SOME kind of guarantee, and you haven't had her long if you just got her when posting about her. I'd be in touch with them that she hasn't used pooped since arriving and that you're willing to try with her, but they need to offer you your money back if she doesn't get well. About the only thing they can say to that is, "No we'd prefer to just take her back" or they should agree..
