Have you tried www.drgecko.com ? They have a lot of medical information specific to just leopard geckos, including impactions and other ailments. Worth it for you to check out.
 
Good morning everyone.

I attempted to return Nanci this morning, we arrived to a closed shop that should have been open "he slept in :rolleyes"
He's a nice man, so I thought I would phone his mobile, I explained the situation to him and he played the card: "Well she was eating in the shop.."
And then he said he would take Nanci and look after her for a while... :/
When I bought Nanci she was on woodchip, and he would not even pick her up.. He used a cricket box to catch her.
So I think she'll be better off with me, and I'll just have to try my best with her, she's a loverly little gecko and I'm glad I didn't return her.
She is however very pale today and she did not eat any of the crickets or meal worms last night.

Will I have to force feed her? Can you even do that with geckos?
If she continues to become ill, I will have no choice but to travel the 1 and a half hour journey to the reptile vet and work overtime.
 
George You have every right to get your money back...I would want my money back, what you do is up to you....I know that in the UK there is guarantees that the shop has to honour. Trading standards are the name to drop in the conversation to force his hand....If he still refuses call Trading standards (while your in the shop and report that you were sold faulty goods).... Let them deal with it for you.... BTW.....Technically there is no time limit on pets as faulty goods...It's very hard to prove after a long amount of time has passed......But a couple of months is nothing......I know I talk with Trading standards.........Phone the guy back and tell him your not happy and you are coming back for your cash....
 
Thanks Mike, well, I'm attached to the little gal now, she's a real charactor and if he won't give me my money back then im more than happy to keep trying with her.
If I did get my money back then she would be put back into an environment and ignored, or bought my someone else and again not told that she's ill..
Therefor if I return her, and forced him to give me my money, I would simply be passing on the problem.
It all comes down to whats more important to me, money or Nanci.
Nanci has to come first before paper.
 
It's your choice George......But on the other hand your allowing him to trade sick and faulty animals......So keeping Nanci could be a drain on you financially and he gets to carry on....
 
I don't think he'll last long mate, when we where last in there, the landlord who owns the property was shouting at him for owing months rent, and it's pretty much always emty in there when we go there..
Also, there's a massive big reptile store up the road, and if they see him selling bad goods they will be the first one's to report him.
I just don't report people because I don't like to get involved, I keep myself to myself.
 
So you had a choice between a grotty little shop and a nice shop and you chose grotty....Didn't you worry that the animals might be a bit suspect off that guy.....???

I agree with Mike here. You really shouldn't have bought the animal at that shop. And being attached? The animal is going to die, unless you take it to a vet. And that is going to COST you alot.
Listen to Mike here, take the lizard back and demand your money back.

I think I know what is going on, the owner is taking full advantage of your age. Yeah, many of you do not like to be reminded that you are children but you are to most in the adult world. And this guy took full advantage of your age and inexperience in life. You were his living door mat and he wiped his feet on you.
 
The othershop is a big shop, but they co-hab some of there snakes and the teenage girl who works there makes ME get the mice from the freezer because she's too scared.
I just thought this new place was worth a try tbh.

I have spoken with a few people, and they believe im just being too over-worried, even though she's hardly eaten this week, it can take a few weeks to settle in. they are probably right, I do worry too much, and of course this being my first leo, anything that does not go to plan makes me a worry head. The same as it did when I first got a corn snake, and a royal.
 
There is a possible reason for every problem I have been worried about ;

The lump on her chest - After looking at a few leo skeleton pictures, this looks like a bone thats part of her breastbone. And the reason its sticking out is because she's lost a few gram from not eating.

Not eating - she could be settling in to her new environment.


not pooped - if she's not eaten, then what has she got to poop?






I'm probably just too worried :/

A healthy leo should eat for you after a few days.
They are not like snakes, they need to be feed all the time. Please take the lizard back and stop making excuses for yourself.
And if they animal dies then don't come back and whine that it died here after we all gave you advice on taking it back.
 
I'm going to let her settle in to her new environment, I don't have to make exuses, becuase I don't have to answer to anyone on a forum.
I paid for her, and I would rather give her a chance than send her back to a petstore environment.
I believe im doing the right thing here, because I'm giving her a chance. She might be fine, like I said I was advised to speak to some gecko experts and I contacted them, with pictures, and they replied telling me that everything seemed fine with her and just to let her settle in. If she's dies "And I hope to god that she does NOT" then atleast I tried.
 
It's right George....You should have an animal in it's prime not one thats underweight, with 'bones' sticking out.....That could be a break, as none of us have examined it...Even if we knew how to detect a break in the first place
 
I can understand wanting to keep her, George. I know it is not the sensible thing to do, but I'm sure you feel like you've bonded with her and have a commitment to her. Have you tried other foods, to see if there is anything she likes better? I don't know squat about leos, but I'd think she has to have a warm enough warm side to even want to eat, if she's too cool, that may decrease her appetite? That is a lizard in general observation, so if temps don't matter to leos, then never mind.
 
The most recommended temps are 88-90F and she's at 90F.
I believe they store the things they need in there tail, and this is why I'm not to worry as much just yet.
Because she has not eaten anything for a few days now, I mushed up some mealies, added them to a syringe and dripped it on her nose "not force feeding" and she licked it off and ate it, so I'm hoping that helped keep her going more :)

She's probably just settling in, sometimes it can take weeks according to the people I spoke too
 
I have 3 leopard geckos, 1 male and 2 females. I have looked at all of mine and cannot see the breastbone on them. How are the fatstores on her tail. A healthy leopard should have a nice fat tail. All mine ate pretty quickly after i purchased them within a couple of days. What size is her viv? If you feel she is underweight try feeding a couple of waxworms twice a week, as a treat, they are good to help weight gain, but should be given sparingly. Mealworms are also good for weight gain. Mine also eat locusts and crickets. Also if you feel she is underweight dust her food with calcium powder every day to increase her calcium levels. I also use bsp drops in the drinking water, as it can be given to lizards and snakes. Hope i have been of help to you.
