Life with Crescent

Crescents second feeding with me.

He Has calmed down 150% since I first got him, he is very comfortable with me.

When I took Crescent out today to feed him he was coiled up very tightly beneath a rock in his enclosure on the cool side of the tank. When I picked him up he stayed tightly coiled in my hand for about a minute which is uncharacteristic.

I let him stay out for 10 minutes before I placed him in his Feeding Condo, as you can see he coiled very tightly around my thumb like he didn't want me to let go of him, also uncharacteristic of him, is this normal?
To me he looks great and feels great to the touch. Note, I have not seen him drink yet in 6 days. (doesn't mean he hasn't while im sleeping)

He did eat, at first he didn't want it but after 5 minutes he swallowed the Pinkie in record time....GONE !

He seems fine, just curious about the coiling thing.
Hes done eating and looks great to me, I love his temperament, I hope is stays this way. I know...they don't care about us but I swear he loves me. LOL

When I put him back in his main enclosure after eating (15 minute wait) he was normal and acting like his playful self

Vet Report; I took Crescent to the "Doc" today. He Regurged two days ago and has just been acting strangely but after a HUGE poop/pee last night he's acting a little better.

This is what she said; She thinks he's healthy, she also thinks It may have been a combination the Pinkie he ate was too big and he may have been constipated. She also said he's not blue yet but it may be early stages of Blue, that its hard to tell if he's going in Blue because of his coloring. But she agrees with me that his eyes have a cloudy appearance so, he may be starting to blue. She also agrees with you all to keep him on a regurge protocol and keep an eye on him.

So I'm not sure what the take away was but he's home where he belongs and Ill watch him. Maybe Im just a Worry Wart.

I'd say the take away is piece of mind. Seemingly otherwise healthy, as long as you follow protocol now (and of course the next few feedings as dictated), and stick with smaller food sizes later (not too small, but now you have a good idea of what he can handle and you know that greater than 1.5x can be really bad), you shouldn't have any problems for a while! Glad to hear he checked out ok!

I have done really nothing for Crescent since he's been acting sick and regurged the other day other that what Nanci and Nythain have advised me, I am still waiting for his Meds to arrive from Kathy but for some reason he has been acting like a normal baby snake all day today. In fact he's out and about roaming around his enclosure as we speak. I love my lil guy.

Crescent is tired, he was up all night playing, this is his favorite spot to sleep, he loves to coil around or sleep under this Peat Pot that is filled with damp Coco Fiber.

In my opinion, most likely, he's fine. Regurging a too-large meal is a natural (although potentially dangerous) act that prevents the snake from having a rotting corpse stuck in his digestive system. For all intents and purposes, once it's over, (as long as it isn't a sign of illness) the snake feels fine. Hungry, in fact. It is just insurance that we customarily wait for a time period to allow the stomach to recuperate, and then we replenish the gut flora with probiotics. It's the same as when you have a stomach bug when you're a kid. You puke, feel great, but your mom won't let you immediately pig out on a big meal; she wants you to take things slowly to prevent further vomiting! Kind of.

Something I might add is from the date stamps it looks like you are handling him the day after he eats. It would be safer if you waited 3 days to handle after you feed him.
Great snake

John, thanks, I did handle him, very briefly but yes I did and that too was my fault. I take full responsibility for making him sick and trust me I feel terrible, I am new and I listen to EVERY single thing you experienced handlers tell me and I will do it right this, I just hope I didn't hurt Crescent too badly.

But I do have a question, don't we have to handle him to take him from his feeder tank to his normal tank since I feed him in a separate enclosure??

You are right, you do have to move him since you are feeding in a separate container (unlike most folks I feed in their home). I just saw pictures of him on your laptop and the date stamp was the next day. I just tell people to feed every 5-7 days that way you can handle him for a couple days and let him digest for 3 days.
If I didn't read it right please let me know and I apologize if I miss understood.
I can see that you care very much about him and have made a great home for him!!!!!!!
John

I dont think it was the next day but it is possible, I don't deny I have done some wrong. The good thing is I'm fairly smart enough to not make the same mistakes twice.
I feed in a separate enclosure because that's what I have read to do. There are many differences of opinion in this hobby and I am trying to collect what I can and do the right thing.

Crescent is doing things I have never seen him do before, but he looks like he's having fun. This is the cool side display at the very top of his enclosure.

That last picture is amazing. It never ceases to amaze me some of the things snakes do with their bodies. And the "drop down from above" is one of those awesome things.
