live mice ok?

well everything ive read says that live mice or even live pinkies will bite your snake and some even say it could even end in death of your snake :shrugs: i think thats bull sh*** personally cause they did that in the wild. also all the snake owners ive talked to say live mice are ok just as long as you watch them eat please tell me if live mice r ok. i was just makeing sure noboady would want something bad to happen to a corn snake :crying:

No live is not a good idea, unless it is pinks or small fuzzies. Older mice will fight for their life and bite your snake if they can. As for the wild I would believe your snake is not in the wild, therfore the way they eat in the wild has no account here. Wild snakes have more room to stalk the prey get in the best position for a kill. They don't have that in a feeding tub. This is with the understanding you are feeding a corn, what applies to other types of snake may not apply here.

You can feed live, but know the risk for your snake. Not only bites, one of the most common reasons snakes get mites is from pet store mice. You also do not know if the mouse was raised on letssay cedar bedding which would make it poisonous to your snake.

If you do decide to feed live, make sure the mouse is healthy and monitor carefully.

Any rodent that is old enough to defend itself will try to. In a feeding situation the rodent can move far quicker (and inflict injury on the snake) than the 'supervising owner can. There have been quite a few threads on here showing the damage live feeding can cause. If you really think that's bull, I suggest you catch a wild adult mouse and try to pick it up in your hands

I'm sorry I have never heard of mice giving snakes mites, could you gvie me a referance.
Don't you think the advice to feed live but watch it closely is a little questionable, not to mention a healthy mouse (more inclined to want to fight for its life). Would you stick your hand in with a snake trying to eat while a mouse is attacking the snake, good way to get bitten yourself.

Not to mention if the snake is uninterested in the wild it wouldn't go after the mouse, in captivity, the mouse will go after the snake.
Life spans for most animals aren't as long in the wild too when you think about it, because a lot of them don't even make it to adult hood, in captivity they are kept safe and if you knowingly do something like feed live. You need to be aware that you are knowlingly putting your snake in horrible danger unless done properly. Also snakes in the wild will get wounds and scars from prey items, would you willingly let your pet get maimed?
Some snakes will only eat live, but they need to be watched like a hawk.

thanks that is REALLY helpful i just wanted to no if there is a choice cause by reading stuff that i read it sounded that there is no choice and u must not feed your snake live mice otherwise your snake will get hurt or something but i think i will feed frozen it just seems a little bit more discusting

Frankly if you haven't been doing it for awhile and look away for one minute.
Your snake would get hurt. It's just a matter of when.

Please thaw first. Frozen not as disgusting as trying to heal the wounds your snake will get.

im not a moron why dont you go be a moron some where else bun not on my threads

No need to get upset.
You're asking basic questions and not thawing out the mouse is an obviously basic mistake.
We're just looking out for your snake.

Edit: I just reread the post.
No one is calling you a moron so you had BEST not join our board ask for help and then insult our members.

Bri, you're going to need to calm down here. You've got a snake and posted multiple basic husbandry questions, and people are trying to help you.
If you stop posting for a while and read the FAQs, you're going to learn a lot more than if you start arguing with other posters. Which will be better for your image on here, and better for your new snake. We all started off as new owners, we all have worries about our snakes, we all generally are willing to help most posters on here

Are you calling me a moron? Just like you I can post wherever I choose. However I would not start what 4-5 about basic advice for corns, when you already have one, and dont' seem to know how to take care of it. Or is it your brother posting?????

Your snake is a pet and should be fed dead animals. Hunting and killing behavior is not tossing a snake in a box once a week and expecting it to always come out on top. We dont give our cats mice in a bowl or our dogs rabbits in a box.

sorry

ok what ever i was looking at stuff and im sure i no whats right now u say that your just trying to take care of my snake but ur just mad and want to be rude.

OK...before things get totally out of hand, the thread will get back on track or, as bri123 has got his answer, I will close this thread if I have to.
