Down with the sickness
Well today officially kicked off breeding season! I woke everyone up Jan. 1, feed them all on the 13th and 20th. Today I threw some pairs together while I was cleaning bins and some are hooking up already, many of the others are in shed.
First were some pink snows.
Next up are the Miami Motleys, willing and ready to hook up real fast!
Then we got a MTwin X Crazy breeding. Crazy is the last of my F1's from my Keys Miami project to be tested for Z. MTwin is definite het, so we will see.

I can't believe this is starting already! I better get that website done! It may not be done Feb. 1st, but it will be done sometime in February.

Carol,
You begin breeding immediately after brumation? How does that affect the number of days to egg laying? I (by 'the book') wait until the female has that first shed out of brumation, and then breed. I averaged 44 days from breeding to egg laying this way. (They averaged 38 days from 1st meal to 1st shed out of brumation, which would total 82 days to egg laying.) How many days do you average from 1st meal to egg laying using your method?

Just curious!

Honestly I haven't kept my data from previous years. Sure I've put dates on breedings and eggs layed, but pretty much toss the info after the eggs hatch. I think this year I will keep them to see if there is anything to it. Out of brumation I will put them together while I clean thier tubs, it gets them out of the tub while I clean it and I get to observe. A very small percentage that I put together actually bred, but if they are willing to start I've never had any ill effects to breeding them early, as long as there is back up breedings.
I guess we'll know in a couple of months!

Very exciting! Nice that Crazy cooperated for you this year too. Those pinks are beautiful and those miamis are... well... outstanding. But what else would we expect from LBR Stock! Congrats.

Hee hee, the list will go public in about 2 weeks. ;)
And ya, it's weird, but I'm not complaining. Crazy wouldn't allow anyone to breed to her in 04, would only accept the most aggressive breeder out of 4 males in 05 (and of course accepted the one that wasn't het Z), but this year she hooked up in about 2 minutes. :shrugs: Even my good females won't hook up that fast.
Go figure.

Thanks!
More action today, the first triple het Hypo Lav Blood pairing! I'm hoping the other three females arn't far behind and that the other male figures it out as quickly as this one. ;)
