Maas - adopted old man

DragonsDenSerpents

Murphy's Guinea Pig
Meet Maas - this boy is 13 years old and was given to me when his old owner and his wife divorced. :( He's really, really skinny and I'm told he doesn't eat F/T. I'm going to be attempting P/K first, but apparently he's been on hoppers his whole life. He's pretty big, over five feet, but I want to see some more weight on him. He's a normal, though he looks like a dirty Miami phase. He's a sweetheart though. :) I'll get some better photos on Thursday when he gets fed.

Hi!

In his viv, had to move his turtle shell hide.

Skinny boy. This is closest to his actual colouration, though he's more red than orange in the saddles.

He doesn't look nearly as bad in that last picture, I've caught wild corns with that bony build. I think a summer of normal feeding will have him back to par. I've only had a few corns stuck on live as adults, I bet he'll switch for you. Previous owner was probably less than dedicated to the snake from the looks of things. Maas is lucky to have you in his twilight years.

Yeah I'm not too worried about switching him. I figure it'll be easiest to start with p/k and go from there. He has a few scars on him but nothing too bad.

You know what I'd do? Not feed for three weeks, take him out during that time and run him around so he's burning calories and is hungry, then serve him up a nice HOT FT hopper, and have a couple more ready. I bet he just eats.

I'll try that, Nanci. Much better than going through the prekilled option. I had to bother him today as I noticed the tip of his tail has some stuck shed, so he's in his shallow bath. :( The previous owners are friends of mine, but I'm a bit irritated. I had no idea they even had a snake and am just glad they don't have children. If a snake is going to remind him of his ex-wife to the point of being so upset that he can't take care of him, then I'm glad to give him a better home! Hell, I'd have no pets at all if I got rid of every animal that reminded me of my ex!

Not particularly. It's good for not growing mold. Cornsnakes don't need a lot of humidity. Aspen is the most commonly-used substrate.
