making a rubbermaid viv

If you use rubbermaid lids, you don't need plexiglass because you can see thru the lid. Is this what you want to take, rubbermaid lid?

Caroline

probably has the translucent tubs and looking to mod them to see inside better. for corns, silicon aquarium sealant should be strong enough to hold the plexi in place and prevent escapes. maybe a couple small bolts to help hold it as well. Maybe even velcro all the way around? Just some ideas, haven't done this myself. post some pics if you try it.

His break down of costs...
Rubbermaid. $15
PVC $1.50
Acrylic glass $6.99
Greenery $3.99

His instructions on how he built it can be found in the thread posted above.

OOOHHHH!!! Well I'm sold. Only those rubbermaids in Canada are $4.99 (and I already have 2!) Definitley a project to make for next winter. ;)

a regular on the ks forums has some interesting designs with tops replaced by a wood framed door and the cage resting on the front or side depending how tall he wants it. more work than the ones above.
garbage can and tote vivs

Mine are 40 gallons. They go on sale for about a week every 2 months.

Edit: Sorry, mine are also rubbermaid, not sterlite.

I know at Christmas time they go down in price major. I think the estimated price wasn't for a single one either. He made a couple of them evidently.

Chuck is also from Canada.

I'll have to look into that. The clear ones are always more expensive, but for whatever reason, when the 40 gallons are on sale, the 25 gallons (or whatever that midsize smaller one is) costs about $3-4 more than the 40 gallon.

I bought mine to store blankets (I knit a lot of them). But I digress... that's a great link.
