making candy canes?

Travi guttata
I was considering making some candy canes in the future, and I want to start at the beggining to selectively breed them myself.

So, Where do I start?

I am guessing a Miami Phase to a Amelanistic, But what would the offspring be? Then I just pick the best looking candidates for the next generation of breeding? The highest whites and darkest reds I am guessing?

Could someone lay out the path for me, If I start with 1.0 Miami and 0.1 Amelanistic?

I would be greatly appreciative.

Thanks much
Travis.

Miami X Amel would get you normals (which may show Miami influence in their colouring) that are het amel. I would personally grow on the ones with the lightest, brightest background colours until you've got a definite idea of which ones are the most Miami-like... then breed them together. Grow on the Amels you get to choose the ones with the lightest, whitest backgrounds, then breed them together. And so on.

I just hope you understand that selective breeding for a particular look can take many generations and you're looking at a minimum of 10 years to even begin to obtain the desired look. Personally, I would just go and purchase a pair of candy canes and then try to improve on their look.

ok, Candy Canes purchased then selectively bred will be the best bet then...

But I am very interested in using the Miami phase snake to change colorations, What would be the best bet in using a Miami to change some coloration?

What would I breed a Miami to?

Hey I started a candy cane project in 2007, see http://cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63877 . I bred a miami phase to a corn that some people also consider miami phase, both are het amel. I got a couple of amels that look liek they might grow up being (close to) candy canes. This year I bought a female miami phase though to add new blood or even replace the recent amel couple with better candy canes.
