Microsoft Sucks

Grand Bubble Burster
When I bought my Dell, I got some extras added onto it---like Microsoft Plus Digital Media Edition.

Anyway, my computer crashed about 10 months in and I had to re-install everything---I forgot to re-install Microsuck Plus. I only wanted it for the alarm clock feature.

So I try to install it now---"The product key you are trying to use has been used on too many computers. If you have gotten this message in error please contact Microsoft Support."

Wtf. I have the key! I really, really do not like Microsoft. Come up with a better way to 'protect' your product.

You know, for all the bashing of Microsoft I hear and all the Mac is better than PC (Microsoft ;) ) talk, I've never had any problems with a Microsoft product. I ran WinME, not known to be the most stable operating system ever, on my PC for about five years without a single problem. No inexplicable crashes, no data losses, no virus problems. I've since upgraded to XP Pro, because Microsoft is discontinuing support for WinME this year.

On the other hand, the one Mac I ever used with any regularity, a brand new, top of the line PowerMac G5, died within the first week of use. All I was trying to do was upload digital video from a camcorder (for work mind you!) and the thing shutdown and never did start properly again. Apple said it was DOA and they couldn't fix it and didn't even know what happened.

On top of all this, something that many people will probably wag their fingers at is that I don't even run any sort of antivirus, internet security, or anything else. Still, I've never had a problem. Sure there may be little bumps along the way, just as there are with any piece of electronic equipment, but there's never been anything I couldn't fix in a matter of minutes to seconds. Never needed any repairs or servicing.

As far as product keys go, that seems like a software glitch. I've seen the same copy of Microsoft products, namely Office 2000, installed on at least a small handful (6-8) computers all using the exact same disk and same product key with no problems. :shrugs:

Anyways, just thought I'd share the other side of the spectrum. :)

The issue is that is protected...from being used multiple times on multiple computers. You can really only install it a couple times or it locks you out. I think the problem is that your Dell crashed in the first place. Blame Dell. :grin01:

good luck with that...when i can afford to dump my gateway, i'm getting a Mac.
i've had my gateway for 6 years. it's a dinosaur. but i had the CPU gutted and upgraded after it crashed last year. the only thing i didnt do was upgrade to windows XP from ME.
i figured it will crash again anyway...i reinstalled everything i could, had to locate all the stupid keys to all my stuff like Word and Excel. some of the programs i still cant get to work...even after being on the phone for hours with microsuck support.

Ctrl+Alt+Del Daily!..well almost...ME is very buggy...those who havent had issues with it are very fortunate.

Yah, but I've used it on MY computer, and mine only. Who cares if you want to install it 5000 times on one computer---what does it matter?

Very annoying.

microsoft has been good to me... other than being xpensive... which is why mac no good for me!

I'm on a Mac. I'm happy. :) Of course, I use Office, but I don't have the OS. No spyware, no viruses...of course, I can't use Serpwidget, but it's still worth it.

Yeah, arms are soooo overrated. :D

Our house has three Microsoft/ Windows and they've been perfectly fine. Two we've had for years. They're Sony's. The third is in my room, and I've only had it for about 2 months. Its a Compaq, I think. But it's been fine so far.

I had to buy a top of the line Mac for school (and I do mean HAD, we didn't have an option at the time for PC), and I went through 3 hard drives & 2 motherboards within 2 years. Talk about piece of junk! I wasn't the only one either, half the class had motherboard issues.

We have a brand new Mac10 in our department, runs like CRAP. The old towers we have running Windows 2000 run a million times better then the new Mac!

Gotta agree with Jazz there, although redhat hasn't produced a desktop version of their O.S. for years - it got split off into the community-driven "Fedora Core" project.

I've been using Linux since 1996 or 1997, and it works great for everything my wife and I want it for. Started by installing it on a Windows box, then later built my own computer from mail-order components and it's had Linux all along (Debian), and then later I bought an iBook - which I kind of reqret - and got ticked off when I first started it up and I had to agree to all kinds of license bs just to use it. Repartitioned it to dual-boot Linux/OS X the first day (Debian again), and pretty much only use the Mac OS for iTunes stuff. New version of the OS comes out, I just download it, don't agree to anything, install and I'm all set.

Helps to be a bit of a techie tho'.

I have a custom built PC, a Toshiba laptop, both of which I use a lot, and a Mac (which, apart from getting a bit slow, has never crashed).
Now I use the PC and laptop more, only because they work with a few more things, and as they are newer, therefore faster.
Fact is though. It's Windows - It's boring. It feels like it's made from tissue paper. Mac OS X, on the other hand, is just more fun. It feels sturdier, and nicer to use. I've had it for a while, and still little things impress me.
Seen screenshots of Vista? Just a lot of Windoze crap renamed, although now baring an uncanny resemblance to Apple's programs. Surprise, surprise.

So in short, Yeah I agree with you, Joe. It sucks. :grin01:

I'm losing my opinion one way or the other. I use a PC and home and prefer it, I use a Mac/MacBook at school and don't really like it. The way things are going, can anyone tell me when the PmaC is coming out? Seems as though Mac's are 'copying' PC's (PC chips in the new MacBooks, etc) and Microsoft/PC is copying Mac (format, 'looks', etc). :shrugs: There's gotta be a day when you won't know what you have in your hands, but everything works on it. :)
