Mouse size

Hi everyone. I was hoping that maybe someone could give me some guidance on the size of the mouse we are feeding our snake. When we got him we were told that he was being fed two fuzzies every week. We talked to a guy at a local pet store and he suggested moving up to the regular sized mice that they have there, one a feeding instead of two fuzzies. I am just worried that they are too big.. we bought a couple but haven't fed him again yet.. it's feeding time tonight, actually. I just realized that maybe if someone looked at the first video I took of him eating they might have a better idea of if he is ready to move up from fuzzies or not..

His feeding video is here: http://youtu.be/pSfmZO7i9MU

Thanks for any insight!

Thanks.. I guess I am going to stick with fuzzies for now at least. I have two more for his meal tonight and then I am not sure what I will do for his next meal. I worry about changing what seems to have been working without being 100% sure, so I guess I wont!

Judging by his head size and the fuzzy, I'd say he might be able to move up to hoppers but I wouldn't take him straight to adults. Just remember the rule of the prey item can be no larger than 1.5 times the width of the snakes head. The easiest part of the mouse to measure is the skull since it's the only part that doesn't collapse down. I'll compare a mouse skull to my snakes before moving it up to the next size.

some correct me if i'm wrong but i thought head size had nothing to do with it? if i remember correctly from all the other threads i've seen and made, it should be no larger than 1.5x the thickest part of the snake.

Yeah, by the width that his body looks in the video I'd just keep giving him double fuzzies. You can always double check with the munson plan if you are worried, but for next week, since you already have the adult mice, why not just cut them in half length wise for him? It'll be messy, but I've done it before and it works lol.

Top tip above. Another is to cut them while they're still frozen. Still messy to handle once defrosted (and the snake may need wiping down after eating), but it reduces the ick factor considerably!

I have one question. The snake eating video... Why does it have stripper music?

Oh and on topic looking at it right now I'd also say stick to two fuzzies. Better to feed it too small a pray item for a while then give it too big an item and risk a regurge.
