The Story:
So my male cornsnake who is an 07 amel has not eaten then past two times i have tried to feed him and i am a lil worried. The last time he fed was on 11/10/08. He has always been a good eater but sometimes will not feed when he is in blue. But i was just wondering if thie is normal for a corn to miss two feedings like this or should i get really nervous? Any advice would be greatly appreaciated.
Thanks
Barbara

After only 2 weeks, he should still be fine, and I wouldn't worry too much. Is he in a room with a window that gets natural light? If so, he's probably noticing the changes in the light cycle, and trying to brumate himself to prepare for breeding season. He might not be big enough yet, but that won't stop him from wanting it! haha.

I don't mean to scare you, but the last person who asked this, their snake died. So- a vet check wouldn't be totally unreasonable, though I'd guess nearly every time an up-till-then healthy adult stops eating, it is for a behavioural reason, not a health reason.

Thier snake died?? So i guess that means i am going to the snake vet. It is just so weird because he has not eaten for one week before but i hope he is ok. When i last checked on him he was sleeping in his warm hide. Man i hope he does not die.

My first question would be how long has he been with you? An 07 is almost 2 yrs old so not as fragile as a hatchling. My vet told me once that he wouldn't worry too much unless it went into the four month.

My Ultramel just missed her first feeding eeeever in the two years I've owned her. I think it might have been too big and so back down for her next feeding. I'm not going to worry too much as it won't hurt her to lose a few grams or two :)

If this snake has gone off before due to blue stages, I wouldn't worry overly much yet. Did you recently change temps? Location of the cage? Add other pets to the household? Add other people to the household? Did you recently change size of his dinners? When was his last blue cycle? It could be a lot of things and I wouldn't have a panic attack just yet or you'll be in real trouble when it's time for the spring hunger strikes :)

I certainly don't think he's going to die, and if it were my snake, I wouldn't give it a second thought. I have several snakes right now that have missed one or more meals. I'm just saying, you never know. So if you get to be really worried, and you take him to the vet, and he's fine- at least you know he's fine! Kind of like when I spent $350 proving Isabel was fine last Fourth of July.

Hi All,
I have had Zeus since january of last year and he is a pretty good weight. But I am not going to panic. I have not changed his location and his temps were good. But he is due to shed so i am hoping maybe he is just in blue. Also the last couple of weeks there were some people working on the third floor(and Zeus is on the second floor) so maybe the loud noise bothered him. I am just going to give him a couple of days and try offering him a smaller adult mouse when i attempt to feed him wednesday. But i am just going to keep a close eye on him. Thanks for all the advice.

If you've had him since Jan of '07 then he really is an '06 right? So that would make him right at 2 yrs old. I would say if that age is correct, he is trying or wanting to brumate. I have a few males that go off feed around this time of year. Last year I had one boy that only ate 3 times in almost 4 months, but once Feb hit, he started eating like a horse. I'd would guess it is a seasonal thing, but like stated before, if you begin to worry take it to the vet just to be safe.
