My Eastern Box Turtle(s)

Call me Matt...
Hey ya'll,

This thread is gonna be about my latest little obsession, my box turtles. As of right now, I only have pics of the male, aka Lugnut. I'm gonna get more pics of him, plus pics of my female, and their enclosure, and post them later.

On with the pics:

Lovely! We have one female but because they are protected here in Maryland we can only own one. She is a rescue and we love her to bits. I really think your mail is very handsome. What bright yellow legs he has.

I love box turtles! I run into them a lot while I am working (usually after a nice rain) and I am always amazed at how pretty they are!

He is a handsome boy. I have two rescued males, one was missing a foot and the other had a horrible RI. Both are healthy and happy now and now I want a female or two.

He's handsome! I didn't realize they had such bright colors on their legs!

Thanks everyone for the kind comments! I'll get off my butt and post more pics as soon as I can, just been getting ready for the Charlotte show this weekend.

Duke, generally speaking, the males will have tons of color on their legs and their heads... honestly rivaling the red foot tortoise color-wise. But again, thats just "usually" the case...

I used to have an eastern box turtle with two legs (the back ones were missing) that I got from WildCare, a local wild animal rehabilition place I work at. Her name was Shelby and I loved her. Someone stole her from her sunning cage two years ago though... *sigh*

I'm going to that! :)

Nice turtles! I rescued a turtle once, because it got hit by a car and had shell damage, and after I fixed it up I released it down at the creek near my house! Haven't seen him since, I'll assume thats a good thing.

Cool! Look for Lynnea and I both under her "Corn Moon Cornsnakes" banner.

Matt,

Nice looking boy, tehy are for sure neat animals and very rewarding to keep. e have discussed this before, but thought I would share with the others. Box turtles and I imagine many other species are one reptile that really seem to enjoy being petted and maybe even captivity. Ours love being petted on the head by the kids.

Sorry, couldn' resist this one...maybe "Bulldozer" or just "dozer" would have been a better name, lol. Good for you taking it in. We have two that were taken off roads and "saved". Both seemed to be ok, but after seeing the shape they were in we had to "give them an easier life. One has obviously been hit by a car, shell is oblonged and she is missing a font leg. Tripod seemed to obvious so we elected to call her Peggy and for short she is Peg. Get it, Peg leg...Peg? I kill me sometimes, yeah I know I am a dork, ask Matty, he will confirm it for you.

For the first part of you post.... I agree completely so far. Heck, even the male has already started warming up to me, and he's only been captive for three weeks. It must be those nightcrawlers, definitely "turtle-crack".

For the second part of your post................. confirmed, lol.

Hey everyone, here's the pics I promised (finally, lol). I'll caption them as I go:

Here's the outside of their enclosure. Its ugly, but it will do until next spring, when I build them a nice pad. Its a converted dove pen, and I like the fact that they are off the ground and away from predators.

They sure do love nightcrawlers... definitely "turtle crack."

I used to own a couple of box turtles. They truly were my favorite of all of the turtles that I have owned. Maybe I will get another one or two..hmmm...
