My first Corn Snake! Color Help?

Lestette

New member
Hi there! I just picked up my first Corn Snake today! I've never owned a snake before and I'm so happy to finally have one! :D
Just a few questions though... Ever since I've brought them home (about an hour ago) they've been exploring the tank and climbing all over everything... I thought they would be hiding and getting used to the new tank... is this normal?
Also, what color does this look like? I've been told that it looks like a Miami?

This is so awesome! I'm so happy to have a snake! :D

What do you guys think?

Welcome and what an absolutely lovely banded corn snake! I would say it is either a normal banded or perhaps even a hypo banded because it looks like the saddle bands are just a darker fersion of those gorgeous rust saddles! Very attractive snake! And yes, your new snake is going to explore every nook and cranny of it's new home. Just make sure there is no possible wat=y it can escape because it will find it if there is any!

Hi there Lestette, welcome.
That's a pretty neat pattern on your snake. That didn't come from a pet shop did it?

Yes, I did get it from a pet shop. :) And I'm so very happy with them! They are just gorgeous! I'm not sure if it's a male or female though... and I don't have a name :p lol.

Hi Lestette, welcome to the site!
You should be able to find the sex of the baby by taking it to the local vet, for only a couple bucks each. I would call ahead to make sure they deal with reptiles.

How many did you get?

Kinda has the same colors as my baby okeetee's.

Good luck with your new friends!

Lol, I've had many people tell me all different colors... I'm not sure which one it actually is, lol.
And I just bought 1 snake today... But I'm already wanting another! Lol.
I will have to find a vet for them... I would really like to know if it's male or female. Thanks for the help! :D

You know something really funny... When I first started reading on forums that people called it an addiction, I thought it was kind of silly and didn't understand it at all... Then I held my first one and found myself thinking, "Uh-oh!" Lol. I can definitely see myself getting more than one of them. Lol.

Congratulations on your new snake!!
I also, started out with just one....then became convinced my guy was LONELY....now, 5 snakes later...(and no, not in the same cage; 2 share a 135 gallon and 2 share a 55 gallon and my neurotic one is by himself)....I have to stop myself whenever I see another lovely snake and go "one more wont hurt".

Good uck with your baby, he/she is gorgeous.
Sincerely,
Susan

Lol, I definitely see me getting another one eventually... They are just so wonderful! And yes, I've definitely already been bitten by the "Well, what's one more?" bug, lol... But I'm holding off for now and seeing how I do with this one. :D
Thanks so much!

NIIIICE! I love the colors. Nice pic. P.S. What kind of substrate u using? It looks like cedar shavings?.( if so that is very dangerous to your snake)

Good idea :) I waited five years, but I wasn't here and I think that may be a record :)

Welcome to the forums! Its not an addiction, its just a very big need that all corn snake owners share. Now, I only have one at the moment, but I'm planning to get more! I hope you have a great time browsing and posting on these forums! Everyone here is super nice and will ask your questions! Feel free to ask any questions your not sure about and I'm sure it will not go unanswered!

I just find myself going to the petstore and just saying, 'heck, one more wont hurt, well, maybe I could get two more, It wouldnt be a problem cost and time wise...'

I can dream, at least.

Thanks so much everyone!
And goodness no, it's most definitely not cedar! I'm not even sure why they sell cedar shavings, nothing can go on them and they are extremely harmful! :S
I don't think I could wait another 5 years, lol... Although the passion for the will still be strong, I think the temptation will have waaay overtaken me by then! You must be one tough cookie lol.

Just too daaaaang picky for my own good and no one is really breeding what I'm looking for... so that makes it a little easier too :)

Well, that would definitely make it easier, lol. And being picky isn't a bad thing... why settle for something you don't really want? :D Lol.

Welcome, and you're in for a treat. I finally got one in February (birthday present) and I love it! You're new baby is a beauty.
