My lil' P'let (Caution: Bird!)

jlindp

Ophidiophile.
This is the newest addition to the potpourri that is my family. He's a Blue Mutation Pacific Parrotlet. My best friend got him for me as a Christmas present, along with cage, toys, treats, etc. I've been wanting a P'let for years, but was always hesitant to buy one due to price and cage requirements. He was in a little gilded cage on the Christmas tree. Needless to say, there was much squeeing on Christmas morn. :} He's a complete joy, though is still not sure about me or his situation! We're currently working on "step up" and he's doing well so far. And without further ado, here he is, Machu Picchu (aka Machu).

Thanks for looking! And expect this thread to be updated as our bond (hopefully) progresses. :D

Thank you, everyone! I've read over and over to keep sessions with babies to a minimum of 15 minutes, twice daily, but it's SOOOO hard! I want to snuggle him all the time, though I'm sure he'd take my face off.

He is way too cute! I love little parrotlets! A friend of mine also has a blue one, named Boo :D

The name you picked is awesome!!

I cant wait to hear stories of his antics and behavioral quirks and of course lots of pics!!

Congrats!!

Thanks, Angela! :} I had such a hard time coming up with a name. I wanted him to have Latin name, since...well, he's of South American origin. And I wanted something that had to do with blue, but there wasn't much I could come up with. Then I found out Pacific's are native to Peru, and VOILA! Machu Picchu.

I have not read that. Why is that, do you think?

A cutie pie bird, congrats!!!

I'm not sure. He's about 10 weeks old, so still quite young. All three of the books I have say to keep them short, so as not to stress them out, etc. They say you can increase the sessions as they get older. He's also been with the breeder (and presumably his brothers and sisters) up until last week, so I'm trying to give him time to adjust to everything else on top of me wanting to smother him with my love, too. xD

And thank you!

Aw, thanks, Lori! That's a big compliment coming from you! :} I actually put the warning with you in mind, since I saw someone else had done the same thing for your benefit. xD

Thank you! I spent a little time last night before his bedtime getting him to step up on my finger without nipping me every time or fluttering off. I think he's finally getting that he can't fly anymore, since his wings got clipped. Silly booger. xD

I really appreciate that! I had to look so I could mark it for next week's WIR...but it was really really scawwwy! ;)

I always keep my evil-eye green cheeked conure pic handy for Lori :D
:nyah:

Is it time to bust out the animated bird .gif's again????

I'm really feeling the love!

Seriously, that is the most adorable bird I have ever seen. The color rules.

Thank you! I love his color, too! The normal variation is pretty too...like an emerald green with the same cobalt blue under the wings and on the back. His been a great little bird. :}
