My mystery anery hatchling...

I still think something else is going on with this little guy. Haven't sexed it yet but it did shed and the shed was completely clear - absolutely no pigment on it like it's siblings. Definately darker than when he first came out but gorgeous all the same.

Sounds like it's dilute- looks it too. That would account for the clear sheds. Congrats, he's very pretty. ^_^

It's darker than the "typical" diluter anery...but do we really know all there is to know about the dilute gene? And could there be yet another gene out there that is causing these atypical anerys with pigment that doesn't show in the shed skin? The suspect dilutes I hatched out this year from an unrelated female are darker than "typical" dilutes. But they also aren't quite like the other anerys in the clutch. The haven't had their second sheds yet, and I don't recall if their first sheds had pigment or not (young hatchlings sometimes have "weird" sheds...I had known normals not show any obvious pigment in their first shed skins). And then I just had something hatch out that doesn't look "typical" either. It's lighter and the color is "off" than it's older sibling from the first clutch, and it's even lighter than a clutchmate that would normally be either an equal shade or lighter as well. And Rich has been hatching out some surprises this year as well, so at this point, we're all going to be keeping more than we had originally planned.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess that means I have to pick myself up a dilute something in Daytona this year or next year (maybe this is a girl). I'm going to have to weed out the collection a bit soon - it's getting pretty big and I know I'll have many keepers next year. I'll keep an eye on the next sheds and try to catch sheds from mom and dad too. All the other siblings had color in their sheds. We'll see what happens - at least it's a nice hatchling and hasn't tried to bite me yet!
