My NEW Crested Gecko!!

Maize411

Hooked for life!!
Well I haven't gotten him yet..lol..I'm supposed to be picking him up on Sunday :) But I did get his tank today and am going to do some decor shopping tomorrow for the tank..so I will take some before and after pics of the setup, and on sunday I will definitely get some pics of the gecko when I get him..All that will be posted in this thread..along with my decision of a name for him (( am so drawing a blank for this..any ideas?)..

So yes..keep checking up on here for updates :) by sunday I will have my new crestie! Yay :)

Alright!! I got him :0) He is sooo cute!! But trust me his pics are making him a lot more brighter then what he really is..His skin color is kinda dark..But I'm uploading the pics to my photobucket right now and will be posting pics of his tank and pics of him :0)

He still has no name as I really am trying to think of what a good name for him would be..lol..Well pics to come in a few moments :0)

As a side note..I am a little bit upset right now because I bought one of those reptile mist'r sprayers from Petsmart and the thing doesn't even work..so now I don't have anything to raise the humidity and I forgot to buy a stick on thermometer and humidity gauge..Which I am going to do tomorrow before I go to work..Other then that He's pretty much all set..He's staying at the bottom of his cage right now..I hope he starts climbing and exploring soon..

Actually those misting systems are crap that harbor nothing but funky bacteria and make the cage too humid and wet. Misting 1-2 times per day is all you need mostly at night when they are active and a water bowl that is shallow. Room temps are just fine so i wouldn't bother with all the fancy stuff- the simplicity of these guys is the best part!!

Okay!! (and thank you Danielle for the advice :0) ))

Without further delay! Here is my new cute, adorable, pampered (lol) crested gecko!! (still no name..lol) And some pics of his hotel home..lol (I think in this case it could be counted as a luxury suite..lol)

Thank you for the compliments everyone :)

Also, quick question..

The previous owner gave me some CGD..but its not in the small bottle like I saw on websites..its this huge chunk of food in a air tight plastic bag..kind of looks like mushed meat..he said to just add water and serve a little to the gecko every other day..my question is..do I put this stuff in the fridge or the freezer or what? Thanks again everyone..

Is it a silver bag? I buy mine in bulk so it comes in a silver shiny ziplock like bag and I store the powder in the fridge to keep it fresh longer.. but not the freezer it breaks it down. You can buy or use an empty squirt bottle as long as it is sterilized to premix food for feeding instead of making it every other day, but mix it correctly 2 parts water 1 part mix using a measurig cup. I leave my diet in the cage for 2-3 days otherwise it just goes to waste- they eat very little so don't bother tossing every night. The food btw should be in chunk form it may be stale if it isn't lose. You will see, but if your food molds in a night chances are the cage is too humid and you can mist less. Enjoy the little hopper.

Umm..I'm still kind of confused..mine doesn't look like a powder though..it literally looks like mushed meat..kind of like cat food colored tuna..its weird..I'll take a pic of the food and post it tonight..

The guy had said to never leave the food in the cage for more then 24 hours..is it really okay to leave it there for 2 days?

Oh and I went to wall mart and got a thermometer and a cheap spray bottle (sometimes cheap is better then the best..lol)

Conrats!
What a cutie and great set up.
You are addicted now, I just got two new juvie Cresties (hopefully both females).

CGD is a fine powder not chunky, clumpy, or solid in any way. Yes for almost 8 years now I leave it in for 2-3 days at a time and until it molds its fine to feed like this unless you like to waste food. As a matter of fact they eat more of it after a day or two because it thickens and they prefer it this way. This person may not have fed real CGD there are a bunch of fake me out gecko foods on the market, but only one meant for these guys that is an MRP and thats repashy super foods CGD. This guy sounds like he didn't know too much and I believe you have what stale food looks like when it clumps together it is no longer viable as a meal. Get some new CGD and you will notice the difference- you will also see it is made with a mold inhibitor so food lasts 2-3 days left in the cage at room temps- even says so right on the bag. Okay..I'm doing some research and it seems the Repashy Crested Gecko food is not sold on Reptilesupply.com :0( I did find a site I can order it from but after shipping and handling it comes out to $20!!!! Which is pretty heavy for gecko food..lol...Anyone know where I might be able to get some RCGD for an affordable price? Thank you all for all your help and advice

Also..Since the tank came with a hood that can have a light in it..I would like to get one of those red night viewing lights..but I'm not sure which bulb to use as I'm afraid it will raise the heat and I don't want to do that..the temp in his tank right now is 67 degrees which is find for him..I don't want it going above 80..I was thinking maybe a red 15 watt light???? I would really like to watch him at night without having to put a flashlight in his face all the time..Any advice? Thanks again..

aww hes so cute! i want one so much! lol
congrats on the new addition to your collection!

do you kep him at room temp, or does he need additional heat?

I order my food from pangea check them out its much cheaper, but also petcos and pet smarts carry small bottles of it for sale for like $4. As far as the light most use a 5watt to keep temps down becaue over 80 degrees and they stress quite easy. However I just leave my lamp on at night when I want to check them out they could care less.
