Hiya! I thought I'd introduce myself since I've been browsing here since I picked up my first corn last week. I've named her Marzipan and I think she is about 6mos old. She's a normal, I think a Miami. She is getting pretty settled in, loves to climb, is great when I hold her, and took her first meal with no issues yesterday. I have just an UTH on one side right now and am thinking about setting up a basking light for her.
I work at a vet clinic and the doctor I work with does see reptiles and she has a ton of her own, so she has been a huge help for me with Marzipan. So she has almost free vet care if there are any issues, and I've been able to order pinkies and tank accessories for cheap through one of our vendors.
I have lid clips on her tank and they're very secure, and I'm using Yesterday's News as the substrate because I can get it for really cheap, and she doesn't burrow under it so it's easier to find her than it would be with aspen (although yesterday when I went to feed her I freaked because she had been climbing and I couldn't find her, I finally looked at her vines and felt dumb because she had been there the whole time).
I haven't seen her soaking in her water dish at all, but I know she has found it because there was poop in there a few days after I got her.
Again just wanted to say hi, I love all your pictures and snake names :)

Oh, she is so pretty! I love Normals, they have some of the nicest coloring and patterns in the world of corns. And I love her name too!

I would skip on the lamp, corns are nocturnal and as long as you have the UTH with a thermostat set to 87° that will ensure she has a good gradient temperature in the viv. Lamps can be dangerous and cause a host of problems and aren't needed by corns since they don't need to bask.

There are "stickies" at the top of each topic, read through them all and you will learn so much more.

Welcome, and enjoy the ride!

They have such friendly personalities, too. I love that about classics. Marzipan (love the name!) will have you laughing and telling funny snake stories at work in no time.

Lamps can dry out the viv as well, potentially causing problems with artificially raising the humidity levels to the safe range for your snake. I second the recommendation to skip them altogether. With a UTH and thermostat properly set, you shouldn't need anything else for a corn snake. :)

I'll skip the lamp then. I was thinking more having it set further above the tank to also light it better and to keep it from warming too much, but she seems to be doing fine with the floor lamp next to the tank.

I did want to show off her setup a little, I love it and I'm pretty sure she does too - like I said she loves to climb so I got a few more things to add "height" to her space. The first is just the front view. The next few are where I have been finding her the past few days - hanging out in the greenery, popping up to say hi when I peek in at her :) She is definitely not a shy snake!

Thanks for the comments about the heat lamp. I'm glad I picked a good name for her too lol!

Where did you get the Coleus plants and that mushroom? I love them, but can't find them for a decent price. Very nice setup!

The two sprays are from the dollar store! Everything else in the tank I got from a vendor through work, except the mushroom is from petsmart. It was in the aquarium section, I forget how much it was. There was a smaller one as well. Glad you like it!

Hooray for dollar stores! We have one here that I have never been to, I always forget about it, I will have to check it out.

Thanks for the reply!
