You may be able to find a decent AC for your bedroom. In general they are more energy efficient than they used to be, and a bit cheaper (I got a frigidaire for $120.00, which is by no means cheap but well worth it).

I run mine at 79 degrees on econ mode which is by no means cold but more comfortable (and healthier) for my snake (and myself).

You could also try craigslist or freecycle for a used AC, though they may be older and not as efficient.

I can see how those units can be useful when the temp outside is over 100...
 
Great idea! I think the investment is worth it if I can keep the snake comfortable and healthy.
 
A small 5000 BTU AC from Sears will cool a 10x10 room and costs less than a nice snake thermostat!! ($99) For $100 more, you get a 7800 BTU unit which will cool a 15x 20 room.
 
haha true true. I guess I haven't minded sacrificing a little comfort to keep our bill down, but it's only for the summer so I guess I shouldn't mind.

Getting an AC unit is a last resort, but I will definitely try the idea with the fans.

Thank you for the heads up Nanci, I will check out sears if it comes to gettign an AC unit. The portable ones I priced our were $300!!
 
I have another method that can help cool your room without spending a fortune. Here's how it's done.
1. Make a lightweight cloth or net (aquarium net work great for this) pouch. 2. Place an icepack in the pouch. Be sure it's a sealed icepack that won't leak. This is very important.
3. Attach the pouch to the front of your fan using bungee cords with hooks on the end.
4. Enjoy the cool air. ;)
 
haha thanks for the advice, it's not really the room I want to cool, just the viv.

I dont mind the warmer temps, but if I try various methods to cool the viv, then I'll just end up having to cool the whole room :grin01:
 
You may want to try a UTH in one side and a Ice pack on the opposite one! :roflmao: (Kidding)
 
I actually put thought into that haha I'm sure if I wrapped it in hand towels and used some clamps on the sides to stop the snake from getting in, it could work in theory?

I think I'm just going to go with a small energy efficient AC unit and keep my room at 80.
