My snake escaped

I`ve lost a couple yrs ago. The cages I use now have screen tops that slide and have latches that lock when they are fully closed. They are basically aquariums with screen tops. No way out for them.

I throw rocks at these kind of people :D

have you checked under his cage? near the heat. i know it seems like a dumb question but i have found a buddies lost hacthling jungle under his boas cage near the heat. barely enough room for him to get under but he did. i have never had an escape but have helped people look. at this point i suggest that you are either to inexperienced to keep a hatchling and would suggest you take it back for the animals safety and maybe get a pet rock so it doesnt escape 3 times in a week.

on a more serious note. get a critter keep or something that is more easier to keep a snake secure in. its gonna come down to something bad if he keeps getting out like this.

Thats a nice Answer buddy but i cant seem to keep pet rocks either, i just end up throing them at people like you.

im not sure how he escapes though im gonna tape the top and door down

No tape!

If this is how he is getting out and he comes into contact with the tape, it is bad news for your snake. If nothing else, put him in a pillow case and tie a know in the open end. This will keep him secure.

Can you show us a picture of what you're keeping him in? That would really help.

IF you're keeping it in one of those plastic containers (they come in various sizes, but Tarantula keepers use them a lot) with a snap on lid which has a door in it, then it is NOT escape proof. I've found that smaller snakes can squeeze under the snap-on lids (not the little door). I've had 3 small snakes do this. Fortunately, I found all of them and stopped using these to keep snakes in.

Here's a pic of what I think you're using. If I'm wrong - OOPS! LOL.

This is a professional forum, please save the personal insults for the sports blogs.

That being said, you need to get a permanent solution to this now, otherwise your pet will escape again. Multiple individuals have mentioned critter cages (myself included). This is the route I would go, but there are Im sure other ways to solve the problem. Congrats on finding the snake, and good luck.

here but it sias on the box Escape Proof

I'm glad you found him. I sure hope you don't lose him again. I just wrote in reply to yr post about you losing yr snake the other day right? Well, guess what? One of my little gals a normal corn snake named Rose has escaped her enclosure. Thats right. I can't freakin believe it. I have had Rose almost a year-almost. It would have been a year on August 25, 2009. Today, I went to go get her out of her enclosure to take her outside for photos and she wasn't in there. I've been tearing my room apart looking everywhere I can think of but since I haven't held her for a couple of days she could have gotten out a couple of days ago and probably is long gone. How do you look for yrs? And how much time passed before you did find yrs each time it got away? Any suggestions of yr own? Thanks for any help.

Ahh, that explains it. I saw these at both of our local pet stores, these were designed for lizards (hence the beardie in the picture), not snakes. He was almost certainly able to get out from the front. You are definitely going to need a different enclosure if you havent gotten one already (though I suspect you probably have, if so sorry for the useless post here lol)

Found out why

i have found out why my corn snake kept escaping and i put a stop to it by putting wight on the lid. he managed to get out by pushing on the lid at the top of the cage but the lid is clipped in but he must push REALY hard to open it it just needs an extra clip i guess but he cant escape anymore, but yeah i found him coz my mum used the snakes escape as an advantage to clear my room of junk a bit so i was getting rid of my toys just befoer we was going to put my old toybox in the loft my mum lifted up a witch hat from halloween and found him i was so so so so so so happy to see him after 4 days

Im glad you solved your problem and found your snake! yesterday i was freaking out cause i was in the same position as you. I have had my corn for a little over a week and yesterday she was gone :(. I set traps, let out the dogs, watched the cats. I was searching up and down for this snake. I didnt find it within two hours of searching. So i came on here and started reading all the escaped snake stories and how they just show up ect to get my hopes up haha. As i was readin these stories i just heard my mother scream SNAKEEE!!! and thankfully, there he was. lol i just hope people who lose their snake for the first time read some of these and dont feel as i did.

I haven't lost one, but I was old that duct tape (if the snake is still inside) works great to catch them!! I HOPE YOU FIND HER!! :(

Duct tape has a lot of very sticky adhesive and is too sticky to use for your snake. There have been posts in the past regarding snakes stuck on tape, it is very hard to remove. Better to use a less adhesive tape like painter's tape.

OP: Glad that you figured out your containment problem! Bet you're less worried now.
