Hello, well we just went to the reptile show in Indianapolis this morning, and my son and I picked up his first corn snake today. we were told it is a hypo, but that's it don't know sex. My boy is very excited, (although if I had someone that was going to do all the work for me I'd be excited too LOL!)

and who would've thought that a couple of 85 cent clay flower pots with some holes in them would be such a big hit! (I'm so returning the expensive hides);)

He's super cute! Congratulations! I think he has too much black to be a Hypo. He looks very much like a Miami (locality Normal) that I had. Someone with a better eye will be able to confirm that, though.

Welcome to the wonderful world of corn ownership! :} Be prepared to get a few more, lol.
 
Congrats on the new addition! I agree with jlindp, he has an awful lot of black for a Hypo. It's a good looking little corn, either way!
 
I was thinking the same thing the breeder couldn't even tell us the last time the little guy ate. Thank you so much for the input. for my sons first snake we couldn't have found a better one it is so curious, and it stares down my cats. Now that's funny to see. and it is a pleasure to handle.

That makes me sad :( I'm glad the little baby is in your hands now. People who don't know what they are doing and breed really bug me, but that's my issue.

The clay pots were a great idea, did you see that at the show?

I agree with everyone else, it's not a Hypo. I think it's a beautiful Miami (locality Normal) which are red with that light gray background. Here is a pic of what my Hypo looks like. (Reduced black borders on the saddles and fewer than normal belly checkers that aren't solid black)

Huh. Sounds a lot like the guy I bought my Crimson corn snake from. He couldn't tell me WHAT my snake ate or how old he was. I got mine from Grand Rapids Expo, though. Wouldn't it just be a kicker if it was the same guy?

I like the little critter. :D He does look like a light classic that has come from Miami lines. He's got too much orange bleeding into the ground color for me to consider him a Miami though. Even so, he will be *stunning* as an adult. :D
 
I actually got the idea for the cla pots from the DIY section here a couple people had it posted, so i took a trip to the local wally world bought 2 for 85 cents a piece, and the rest is having to many tools and too much time on my hands due to being laid off. the little buggar loves them, in one hole out the other.
Yup defin. not hypo but you have an awesome example of one.
I'm still new to all of this, morphs, phases, genetics, it's enough to make my head spin. But I have no immediate plans to breed so i have time to learn.
 
some breeders, well lets say vendors, are just there for the money. For me they are pets first, not dollar signs. I'm trying to have my son understand the responsibility of caring for an animal and then we talk to a guy who is supposed to know what he's doing and he can't even tell us the last time they ate. Oh well, now it's time to start working on a bigger home.he's as long as his ten gallon home is. this is where the fun begins!

Ok ok you caught me It's more like "our snake" with me doing all the work and he gets all the credit. LOL! but I love snakes and all things creepy crawly, so i'm not complaining
 
I know that one. My six year old grandson got me started. Now we/I have seven,with two more on the way! I enjoy every minute of it! Have fun. Lee
 
I have a normal whose father was a miami, he has a lot of gray and the orange is being slow to come in, but deffinitely not a miami himself. Such a sweet lil un! Our first was supposed to be my husband's. He was the one who wanted snakes. I have no issue with them just never thought of having any as a pet. Now i have 8 snakes! Of course he claims the diffused, lol!
 
I've owned a pair of balls (that sounds dirty):crazy02:and Ive helped a buddy out alot with his 3 10 foot burms, but these little guys have more personality than any other kind of snake I've encountered. Ours is definately a people watcher, and he plays peek-a-boo with the cats- hilarious! And i love the marks on their heads, no two are ever alike.

WOW love the clay pot hides. I used to use those for hermit crabs, never thought of adding a hole or two and using them for snakes, esxcellent idea and thanks for showing them off. And oh, the infamous first snake. I love those.

I love the picture of him popping out of the top for a little look-see. Super cute!
