It's Jager time!
Well it just so happens that there are far more oppertunities to photograph the spidies than the snakes, they are always doing something quite fabulous and interesting. Soo to sort of limit the amount of spider threads posted by myself I shall just update this thread whenever the spidies give me an excuse to photograph them.

Today, I got home to find "Moonbeam" my wee G. rosea (chile rose) freshly moulted. Well done wee thing! You iz sooo pink!

I also found "Little Glitter Bumfluff" the flame knee (B. auratum) in pre-moult. It's bum flesh has turned black meaning the hair underneath is now pigmented and the spidie should moult very soon..

Kalypso my fire leg (B. boehemi) looks different... theres no moult in it's pot but it looks slightly larger and the leg colour is much more visable than before. It's also been refusing food for the last 2 weeks - hopefully Kalypso should moult very soon too :)

I caught "Miss Supvernova" the red rump (B. vegans) oot and aboot... she got 3 crickets to celebrate her recent moult. She got a bit mahooosive after that last moult.

Shes freakin mahoosive Brian, I can't believe it. I can't wait to see Glitter Bumfluff after a moult... no more baldy bum! :)
 
Hrm, so you keep them all in tubs? Perhaps I should try that in order to get some more spider action going on. Do you heat any of yours? I've read that spiders are fine at room temperature, but particular species are happier at higher temps (my H. lividum for example). I'm thinking the reason she's not very active (besides the fact that she loves her burrow) is that she is not warm enough.

I'm scared to use heat though, because I can just see something terrible happening, like me not turning off the heating pad on a really hot day and ending up with a cooked T. :crying:
 
I have the T's in a large plastic tub in which I have put their pots and wee plastic tubs inside with a heat mat on the side and the probe placed just next to it. I have recorded ambient temperatures of 78 max which is perfect and 72 min on the side furthest away from the heat. If the thermostat were ever to die then I have used a mat small enough to make sure even if running at full power it will never heat the box up to more than 85. I tested it without a stat for a few days and It never read higher than 85 right next to the mat and 80 away from the mat.
 
WHOOOO the C. fasciatum did the flip! Shiney new spidie should emerge pretty soon :) I'm sooo excited, it's the first moult I have ever seen happen... I hope everything goes ok and that it doesn't get stuck and die.

I've gotta say elle, Miss supernova is GORGEOUS!!! Can you do me a favor though? Could you take pics of the full tub you were speaking of? I'm having a hard time picturing it. I miss my spiders, and though they have recently become banned in my area, I'm moving to the next town over, where they are still legal. I'd like to begin my spider collection again soon.
 
Here you go firesprite. These little plastic tubs have flippy lids. Oh and this was Supernovas first tase of pinky tonight, she came and grabed it off the tongs LOL

Sad news on the fasciatum tonight. It ruptured during a moult... since it is not oozing I have been advised that it would be perfectly fine until the next moult. Unfortunatley there will never be a next moult, he is now offically a mature male with a nice set of claws. Pooop...

Hes wandering around building elaborate webbing platforms so at least I think the rupture won't cause him too much damage, but it's still a sad part of keeping T's. I guess he only has a few more months to live.

The good part of tonight? Every single one of my avic slings ate whoo! AND my Nhandu chromatus sling moulted. Look at those gorgeous stripes already!

That is quite sad. He was (still is) a gorgeous T. You have some of the most beautiful creatures Elle. If I ever get lucky enough to visit scotland, I would LOVE to come see your collection in person.
 
And you would be most welcome. The fasciatum is up for sale/breeding loan. Hes not going to live long and if he can breed before he dies then thats fine by me.
