Mystery Charcoal?

What do you think this one is? A phantom? An ultra charcoal? And what do you think caused the pattern change near his vent - a total mess up on the checkered belly pattern? He has a very odd face with those giant eyes too. Inbred or something else going on?

I bought him in June as a "charcoal ?, male" and these photos were taken yesterday. There's no info on who bred him available.

His belly is actually very similar to my charcoal-anery-what-the-hell-is-it, Vanay. There is definitely some extreme sort of hypomelanism going on with that critter.

What would an ultra phantom look like do you think? This guy is very translucent still as you can see. I'm not detecting any yellow on his throat yet either. I'd guess he's at 6-7 months old.

To Hypo or Not to Hypo...

I'd say you have a "phantom"(CharcoalxHypo), with some really funky eyes....
Possibly het for diffusion??? is that a possibility?? what i mean is...when you got it..was it listed as Ph diff or bloodred? Just guessing ....as i'm no "morph" expert... but i'll stick with calling it a Phantom. i have a phantom of my own...he is het anery, amel and PH Diffused...and his belly looks alot like your little ones belly....

No hets were listed on the label at all. He's a total breeding project all on his own, lol. Hopefully he will start growing a bit faster. He eats alot but doesn't seem to convert much of it to growth...

I also have an an Ultramel charcoal...and no...I dont think you have an ultramel Charcoal....now an ULTRA Charcoal....I've never seen one... LOL
heres my kids for reference...first is the phantom & then the Ultramel Charcoal

after viewing a few pics...i cant honestly say one way or the other...it MAY be an ultramel After all.....I'll let the experts weigh in on this...

It looks like a Phantom baby to me. :D One of the snakes on my want list along with several others lol!

P.s.
I've never seen a bug eyed corn snake before. I've seen bug eyed leucistic rat snakes before, though. First time for everything I guess.

I think sometimes when snakes arn't fed enough they get the bug eyed look. I just bought a baby Plasma who had the bug eyed thing going on. He's tiny and his feeding chart said he'd only been fed 3 times in the few months he'd been alive. :twohammer

Perhaps the breeder or person you bought him from had him on a maintenance diet. Hopefully with more feedings his head and body will catch up to his eyes.

Has he significantly changed color since you got him, or has he always looked that light? He looks like a Phantom to me. Perhaps the breeder bred some Charcoals and didn't know enough to ID Hypo within his clutches.

My Phantom has eyes like that. Ruby pupils and blue irises. Her irises are not THAT light though, and when I use flash they look dark. In high sun the blue shines through.

Some Phantoms can be really light like that. It's definitely crazy, like I said, I vote Phantom, but only with about 80% positivity. I think breeding trials are in line for this one!

Well, when he's big enough I will test him with a female lavender het hypo, stripe and a female hypo blood het. anery. Could do a match with an ultramel stripe too just to see. I have seen photos of ultramel charcoals with the black iris and red pupil, and also ones with the silver/blue iris. Maybe there's dilute in there too? I don't have a female with that trait but I do have a female that might be het for it.
