Something strange has happened, the likes of which I have not seen before, nor even heard about!

I have a 4 year old male Goldust, who up until this week has been 100% healthy and normal.

Last week feeding day, I open up his bin to feed him and notice he is in blue. I skip feeding, change his water & bedding and leave him to be.

This week I open him up, and I see he is in his hide, but there is no shed. So I lift his hide, and to me surprise, WTF, he has not shed, but he kind of has.

There are pieces along his body that are shed, but it looks more like the skin fell off, then he tried to shed. The front half of his body is mostly intact. The skin falls off easily on the back half of his body. I just at that moment notice, he now has about a 1/4" bump as though he has a kink, and this for 100% certainty was not there before. The skin past the bump is all off, before it is almost all there. I put him in the tub of water, and he is literally pulling the back half of his body around. WTF happened?

Looking at it I would guess he some how dislocated a vertebrae??

Aw man! That is crazy! I would definitely get this one checked out by a vet, but I have a suspision.. That female okeetee I had that started out with a strange hard bump on the spine, that had just showed up was eventually figured to have been cancerous. She was fine with it and ate a bit for the first while, but then eventually stopped eating. Perhaps are we dealing with "the big C?"

Good luck man, keep us updated!

Rebecca

Can you get some pictures of him? That might help some of the people here to figure out how to help better. The description alone is somewhat confusing. :shrugs:

If he's got a kink in his back and is dragging himself around, sounds like some sort of spinal or neurological injury or sickness. I'd take him to a herp vet right away. Best of luck!!

It's not cancer for sure. There is definately something out of alignment when you feel him. I would take a pic, but it wouldn't show anything.

When he moves, the normal back and forth motion stops at the bump. He still responds to touch past the bump, and he moves his tail back and forth just fine, but between the bump and the vent, there is no movement, and the muscles are completely relaxed.

I'm going to try to call a vet and see if I can find a herp one. I think he broke or dislocated his spine.

Take him to a HERP vet. That's the only way you're going to get any kind of correct advice/diagnosis. PLEASE make sure it's an actual herp vet, though. A regular dog & cat vet won't work, as most of them have no reptile experience.
