New babies, normal amel variation?

Monster Under Your Bed
My first clutch of corns for the year has hatched and shed. The parents were a deep red sunglow motley female and a super bright reverse okee male. I am a little confused by what popped out. Some of the babies looked like snows when they were born, except for spots of orange base color. Now that they have shed, I am even more confused since some babies are super bright and deep red, like I would expect, and some look like the red is extremely faded. On one I swear the base color is darker than the saddles. My girlfriend insists it looks like hypoerythrism in some species of milk snake, but I have never heard of such a thing in corns. Here's a few pics. Any ideas? Is this normal variation in amels? Is there cream in them (I have no reason to suspect either parent and see no markers)?

There is a large variation in amels, especially in new hatchlings as the pigmentation is the last thing to develop, sometimes taking a couple of sheds to show itself. However, I don't think I've ever seen any quite so pale before! Absolutely beautiful! If they were mine, I would hang onto them for awhile to see just how long it takes to color up, if they even ends up like a more typical amel. You might just have yourself a new variation that you might want to work on!

Very cool! Thanks for all the responses! I thought only the orange developed later, but I guess the red can do the same. Good to know. I think I will hang on to a few for a while to see how they develop. And Caramel, from the pics you posted, those look a lot like mine do. Beautiful babies! Corns never cease to amaze me with their insane variety.

Interesting looking amels! I'm curious to see how they'll develop. And I'm with Susan here. The palest ones are definitely something I'd keep to see whether they'll develop to normal looking amels or not. If not, that whashed pale look would certainly be something to work with! :)

I wonder if you could breed the snakes that take the longest to color up and essentially line breed for reduced or very orange pigment that way. I'm not sure if it would work. Beautiful animals!

And again, I agree with susan. A number of people have had low-pigment amels hatch out this year it seems.

I had almost the exact same pairing, and had almost the exact same result. Ill post some pictures as soon as I have some decent ones.

Yep that is quite normal. Sometimes the amel pigmentation takes longer to come in.. I had a hatchling that I got a few years ago, was completely white except for a bit of orange in between the saddles. But he grew up to be the prettiest amel I had.. I will try to find his post on here if I can and link it so you can see..
