New boa!

Oh yes - you should go to the vet and check for any other diseases, and IBD. I think I heard that IBD can be spread from snake to snake but I'm no sure so don't take my word for it...

What a cool pick up! Though I would be a bit hestitant to get another one from that breeder after hearing about the IBD and conditions, it's going to mean one heck of a quarantine period. Will you be able to get this one tested to make sure it does not also carry that disease? It is a beautiful boa though, congrats!

Thanks! And yeah, he's going to be in quarantine for a good long while. Unfortunately, the only way to test for IBD is to have surgery done on the snake, or by doing a necropsy. I just don't have the money for the surgery, but he will be going to the vet very soon to check for other parasites and nasties.

From what I've heard about IBD, it can be passed from boid to boid by direct contact with the snake, fecal matter, or any other bodily fluid. I've also heard rumor that it can be passed on if I touch the snake, and then touch another one of my boas. My hands are gonna be sanitized every time after I handle him, just to make sure. Actually, I sanitize my hands after every contact to avoid passing on any other nasty little bugs.

I really, really hope you don't have any problems with this snake if your other one tested postive for IBD.
If I had a snake that tested postive for IBD, I'd never EVER buy from that person again. Even if their deals were too good to resist. That's just me, and I'm not trying to berate you. Glad you got the snake and its in good hands, but you still gave this guy repeat business.

Here's to a long life for Napolean, though. He's beautiful!

Repeat business, but at a rather large loss to him. If Napoleon really is a sunglow, he lost about $800 (which is what the snake would have cost after the payment for the other snake, vet and necropsy bills). But I'm still keeping this guy quarantined for a period longer than any of my other snakes.
