Hey everyone! My name is Kyle and I'm new to keeping snakes (and reptiles in general). My mother and I have kept numerous domestic and exotic animals throughout our lives--she being the primary caregiver of our little critters--and I've just recently started keeping reptiles. I have only one at the moment, it's a male bearded dragon named Cosmos. He's the reason I got so interested in herp culture so quickly (as well as my entire past living with animals of all kinds).
So here's the corn snake part :crazy02:
I was led to corn snakes simply because they share the title of "starter" with bearded dragons. I had always thought snakes were kind of dull and not exciting. Clearly I was wrong. I have a friend in Canada who regularly posts pictures of her adorable albino corn, which sparked my curiosity months before I even considered buying any kind of reptile. It all kind of grew from there. I got my beardie, he grew exponentially (he's actually a bit bigger than he should be, which leads me to believe that he has German Giant genetics.. or he's just a little chubster), I discovered the variance in corn snake paintjobs and fell in love immediately. I've since read two books on the subject of corns, one from Advanced Vivarium Systems and another book that wasn't so great. I will be getting my first corn in the next week or so. I plan on getting a male and then a female later on. I want to breed in 2015. My knowledge of corn genetics (and genetics in general) is very minimal, but I very much want to learn and go deeper into these beautiful creatures.
I suppose folks will want to know what I plan on breeding in the future. I was planning on starting with an anery and a motley to make some of my own black motelys, nothing horribly special, just something to start. However, I have been fortunate enough to get a few donations from family and friends that will allow me to start with a Tessera and something else, I'm not quite sure. I really love Caramel and Gold Dust corns, so I think I'll be going that route. I'm open to any suggestions as this is all 100% new to me.
I'm looking forward to a long and enjoyable stay here and hopefully I'll be producing some great snakes for sale in the future.
