New question..length or width??

Maize411

Hooked for life!!
The tank my snake is currently in seriously lacks length..I have a water bowl and two hides in there and it's already full to capacity..it's measurements are: 20Length/10 and a half Width/19High...I know she will outgrow this very quickly and it's already kind of crampy in there in my opinion..I'm currently looking right now at an Acrylic cage that is 30Long/12Wide/17High...does this one sound like it would last me a long time?? (hopefully throughout her adulthood...tell me what you guys think..thanks...

Are we talking inches here? If so, the one you're looking at buying seems to be about a 20gallon long, which is the minimum size tank for an adult corn. So yes, it would last a long time. I personally would be inclined to go for something a tad bigger, but it's up to you.

sorry I forgot to mention..yes it is in inches...that would have helped huh?? lol..sorry again..thank you for your input though..right now I might just stick with the one I have found since I can get it for 101.00 and that's with shipping..that's the cheapest I've seen a 20 gallon tank for so far..at least I think it's a tank...I'm not really sure what "Acrylic" is...if someone could explain to me what material it is...I would appreciate it..thanks :0)

Petsmart sells 20 gal long glass tanks for a regular price of 27.99. Screen lid is probably another $13.49 or so.

Or the 20 gal long critter keeper with sliding lid is probably about 55.99

Or you could check out lllreptile.com for the Visionariums, which are roughly equal to a 20long for about $65 each.

There are lots of options out there...

Well I have to go back there today anyway to return the dumb basking lamp and bulb they sold me so I'll check the prices of a 20 gallon long tank..thanks for the advice :0)...the only thing is I checked their web site and it looked like all their 20 gallon tanks were over 100.00...I don't know maybe those are just the fancy ones or something...I'll see what I can find...one good thing is my rheostat came today so now I'm able to comfortably control the heating pad so my snake will finally have a warm side...Well I'll keep everyone updated and thanks again :0)

I believe Acrylic is a plastic glass substitue, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I wouldn't think that a bigger tank would cost more, but I guess it depends what prices are like in your area. A 20 gallon long would suffice fine, but bigger is better IMO. It depends what kind of tank you buy, what state of repair it is in, and where you buy it from. Let us know what you decide to buy, good luck choosing :)

Oooeerrr

why buy a new aquarium?

http://geo.craigslist.org/iso/us/nj

Just check every day or so, there are a few people a week selling aquariums on the vancouver craigslist. But don't forget to ask for measurements, I had one guy try and sell me a 20gal that was acutally 50gals when I checked on the gallon calculator.
http://www.firsttankguide.net/calculator.php

(and I did end up geting an 33gal off of craigslist, $40 and the guy delivered. I might upgrade in the future anyway, as FinFang grows).

Yeah, acrylic is kind of like plastic.

I have a couple acrylic tanks for my fish. They're nice because they're a *lot* lighter than glass aquariums. The acrylic does scratch easier, so watch how you handle it and what sponge you use. I also like them because they're made in one piece, so no sealant at the edges (which can get oddly colored over the years), and are less likely to break if you drop it.

Generally, I like them.

Well I went to Petsmart today and returned a lot of stuff they had sold me that I have found out I don't need..then with the store credit I bought a new tank..a 20 gallon long...so now Maize has plenty of room between the cool and the warm end..and I even was able to buy a climbing log for her and some decorative background to stick onto the tank..give her that nice forest feel...hehe..I think both me and her are very happy right now..although now it's going to be slightly harder to find her when I want to take her out since she is small enough to dig into the bedding so she could pup up anywhere..But I'm happy now..One last question..should I only make the humidity about 45 when she is shedding or should I keep it at 45 at all times?? Right now it's at about 23-25 and has been since I got her..I'm new to the humidity thing so maybe you guys can explain to me on how to raise the humidity during her shedding period..thanks... :shrugs:

You'll find a lot of different opinions on how to raise the humidity. Misting the viv or putting in a humid hide seem to be the most common methods. If you try searching, you can find out more about both of these.
