New red-tailed green rat snake.

I am super excited, not only did he take his mouse before I left the room today, he was up and about exploring his canopy tonight. I am so glad to see him settling in and becoming more confidant. The other day I even caught him resting near the front of his enclosure instead of the back.

I am probably too excited about this, but it makes me happy to see him doing so well and behaving in a way that shows he's feeling safer and more secure =3

I'm always glad when they seem to be more comfortable. Besides, it's more fun when you can observe them doing "their thing".

I know I keep posting in the thread, but I wanted to share something cool.

Unlike the other snakes I have had, that cruise their vivs when they are hungry, this guy will find one of hid medium to high branches, coil up, and keep about a quarter or third of his neck curled in an S shape looking straight down at the cage floor.
I really need to get a photo of this since it just looks so cool. =)

I seen these for the first time a couple years ago. Would really love to have one. I know the pictures are not shopped. They are very beautiful and bright. I've seen a couple that were not as green but had more of a blue hue and I don't think they were in shed.

This snake is infuriating. He has gone through his shed cycle, so I am doing my best to keep the humidity up, and all that. I check on him last night and it looks like he hasn't had anything to drink in weeks. WTH snake? He was fine when I fed him on Tuesday (I don't normally feed in shed, but he was tracking movement so I figured why not), and he passed a normal stool on Thursday/Friday. I have no idea what caused him to go down so fast. So I pretty much forced him to soak, he's looking a little better today, and was more then happy to nip me when I checked on him. I'm just hoping he gets out of his skin soon, it's almost like he is refusing to shed. I'm thinking that's partly what has him looking so bad, but I'm sure his refusal to drink isn't helping.

Give him a nightly spraying with a bottle mister. Some like to drink off the greenery or themselves. If nothing else it will help with him basically taking moisture through the skin.

I've had a chondro or two that really seems to need extra moisture in order to have a decent shed. Never figured out why but they do. If I don't soak the crap out of the cage they have crappy looking sheds. As long as he's not really dehydrated and just looking bad before shed I wouldn't worry too much. They do need plenty of humidity though. That's one thing I remember my buddy saying and he kept a lot of them.

Looks like he shed everything but an eye cap that's halfway off, I imagine he can take care of that on his own. Unfortunately it was in many, many small pieces, but he looks infinitely better now.

I've worked with the species a hair, had a w/c pair for a short while. They were nowhere near as placid as yours, though took mice with gusto. They really are a pretty species, I just didn't know they could be handled and hold still!

Don't worry, they are coming,I just want to get a good meal in him first, plus I'm working all weekend so it will be Monday or Tuesday =3

He decided that cooperation for a couple of photos was just too much to ask today, so I had to bust out the critter keeper, I have never seen him so generally defensive and just plain vicious. Maybe this is a good thing though, and his previous placid behavior was a clue he wasn't feeling too well?

You can see he still has a smidgen of shed left on his nape, and the one eye cap hasn't quite worked it's way off yet, but otherwise he is doing well. I'm keeping things extra humid for him, until I see these come off.

This one I just thought looked really cool, plus it shows off his coloration better =3
