I've been waiting to post pics of this '04 boy I got on critterauction, he arrived on Thurs and is a great addition. Though I am still sad about the loss of my other silver queen male Hercules, I am glad I was able to get this one and I hope he will pass on his good looks to my stripe & motley silver queen project. I renamed him 'Perseus' I love his bold belly checks, and he's a sweetie to handle. This guy is awesome, thanks Zach!

Congrats Jen. :) Just those pics alone put him in my top 5 favorite ghosts. I love that pastel/colorful look. I have the same question as Menhir though. This guy doesn't look silverqueen to me either. I'm no expert in them, so it wouldn't surprise me if I'm wrong. Wouldn't matter to me anyway, I like his look better than the silverqueen look. :)

Menhir why do you ask? Just curious, and I think there can be a lot of variation in the look.
Though I may not be the world's biggest silver queen expert, I purchased it as SQ from Zach Shepard (Shep151) who got it as a SQ from Terri Manning (Corncrazy) So I am pretty sure from the excellent reputation they both have that it's a silver queen :shrugs:
Even if this snake is not silver queen I'm still happy with him, lol but would like you guy's opiinion please :)

I should add that my camera made him look a little more pink/peach than he does IRL.
Anyways I am happy with his looks even if he turns out to be 'just a ghost', lol!

One more pic in his viv, the color further down his back approximates his true color a little better than my camera can capture . I just ran out of batteries lol!

I know, Rich is the one to decide which animal is a SQ and which is not. Therefore, you normally can't tell for sure by the look of an animal if it is or if it is not... ok, in most cases you can, but that's not true in general.
I've just never seen a SQ male with that amount of red (leading to a pastel color) in connection with nearly normal colored blotches. All the SQ I knew with that much amount of red had way more washed out saddles. Here an example:

I think it shows the nearly "frosted" look that is typical for most Silverqueen males.
But as I said, it was just a question because the really nice look of your male doesn't fit the look that I've known from SQ males.

Yeah, I see what Menhir is saying. All of the silverqueens I've seen definitely have 'frosted' saddles and normally lack that pastel coloration. Not saying it isn't a silverqueen, I've just never seen one with coloration like that.

Thanks for the pic Menhir, it's interesting to see for comparison and I get what you are saying.
Since I won't be putting the label 'silver queen' on the motleys and stripes that I hope to get down the road but rather trying to breed some nicer ghost genes into the ghost mots and ghost stripes to see what happens, it doesn't really make a difference to me if he looks like a 'typical' SQ because he's just beautiful. I still would like to see what everyone thinks, I appreciate the input :)

This snake was produced from 2 Serpenco Silver Queen Ghosts. I got him from a friend who has purchased most of his snakes from Rich. I guess since the SQ's are selectively bred, it is possible to get one that doesn't have "the look."

Isn't it like with sunglows then? Meaning if they don't have the look, then they are simply not a sunglow, even if both the parents are..... Silverqueen is neither a genetical morph after all....

Perhaps Rich can say something to this "situation". It would be interesting for me especially because in europe, we are already keeping F1 and F2s that are , of course, not directly from Rich anymore.

indeed I'd also like to know the answer to this question.
In my opinion she doesn't look much like a SQ if i compare her to my SQ's.

I did notice my female hypo het silver queen from serpenco, threw some very frosted babies when I bred her with a plain anery.
It'll be interesting to see what kind of babies she'd have with this snake if I do decide to breed her again.
But as I have already said my main intent is to improve the look in ghost motley and stripes through this snake and my other breeding from this year and recombining the genes by crossing F1's.
Thanks Terri for your reply, and either way I am glad to have this beautiful boy regardless of what 'label' he should technically have.

Menhir, the pic of the baby you posted comes out looking slightly "ruby-eyed"...Trick of the light or did/does it have ruby eyes?...Just curious
