New Snakes

im a better snake keeper than alot of you im sure of it.

currently all my snakes except for 4 of my corns have their own cage and the reason they r not seperated is because i havent been able to get them all their own cage and they r all siblings so whatever.

I think when you say I take my snake everywhere you should expect people to be concerned- not rude but concerned because it is stressful to the snake, exposes them to illness, and is dangerous for the animal and others around.

If your snake is big enough for medium rats then yes thats good to provide them with an adequate meal, but if he's still a little guy who fits in your purse that may be too big leading to a fat snake that is always digesting- research the correct meal size and frequency:)

Sibling corns still stress each other out, compete for warm and cool spots, and may cannibalize each other so getting 3 extra tubs and heating sources is important so they stay healthy and happy. You should also consider that being a responsible animal owner means having all neccesary equipment and knowledge first, and acquiring the animal last. When you do it the other way around people get ticked;)

the only reason y my snake went to walmart with me was bcuz i didnt have anything to keep him in at the time! its not like he was in sight anyways. i have a big purse that zips shut that i kept him in. you r all being completely horrible just like every other snake person iv ever met. rubber snakes? not gona hear that. im a better snake keeper than alot of you im sure of it. all the money that iv gotten in the past 4 months has gone ONLY to my snakes the cage i was going to get was 2 cages that connected (BUT WERE SEPERATE) currently all my snakes except for 4 of my corns have their own cage and the reason they r not seperated is because i havent been able to get them all their own cage and they r all siblings so whatever. my red tail seems content in his rubbermaid he just ate a medium rat today (at the pet store he was fed 2 mouse fuzzys every few weeks so if u think im a bad owner u havent met alyssa costa) yea im 17 so? judge me cuz of my age and i dont want u posting here. im above others my age and im not gonna be treated like a lil kid

oh boy...

You have to realize that people here are only getting short with you because of the brash attitude with which you have been responding. I highly doubt if you're keeping corns together that you are above the rest of us and know more than everybody. NOW you are sounding like a stereotypical teenager. I would heed the advice of others as a lot of us have been keeping snakes since before you were in preschool/born. Always make sure you've got the proper space and money BEFORE picking up another snake, especially one that will grow as large as a BCI. You can learn quickly from others who have come into this forum with the same attitude, that it will probably not be handled well and will end up hurting you in the long run. Try and be more positive towards the community here and LEARN from us rather than hate us for telling you you're wrong.

As for considerations, once again I refer you to the above post by danielle. She's awesome

i lol'd. i dont have much to say. but you say were the same as any other "snake keeper" youve ever met. maybe were not the ones with a bad attitude or a problem to worry about. maybe your to dense to realize you dont come off as a very nice person yourself. i was really nice in this thread to begin with before you got all savage on us. im sorry that you feel like a beaten dog here. but sometimes you gotta take advice and criticism and think, hmm, they have a good point maybe i should keep my mouth shut and learn, or politely respond with a thanks for the help, not go F yourself and get outta my thread kinda way.

Carly, If you truly want to give your snakes the utmost care. Please separate your corns. As was previously mentioned, the stress of competing for space can cause illness and possible cannibalism.
I'm glad you didn't walk into Walmart with the snake hanging around your neck or something, but it still would be a good idea to keep the snake at home from now on.
Good luck with all your snakes.

i have been nothing but nice to everyone on here until you started pulling this all of you. and before i fed my new red tail i asked a person that i know (who likes bigger snakes not corns) what size rat i should feed my boy. he also told me that its not good to feed snakes more than 1 food item at a time and gave me the reason behind that which made sense. cuz my xfriend/pet store owner feed all the snakes there a bunch of mouse fuzzys and nothing bigger than that. (thats how the subject came up). anyways. i hate fighting with people and im sick of all you peoples negativity. i understand i have so much more to learn but im not open to learning from people that present new information to me in a mean way. know-it-all attitudes and putting me down is not a good idea end of story.

You should also consider that being a responsible animal owner means having all neccesary equipment and knowledge first, and acquiring the animal last. When you do it the other way around people get ticked;)
Exactly! Don't pack your bags until you buy the ticket.

No offense Carly... but I really don't like it when people get animals on impulse, because the animals always suffer for it, not the person who bought them. I'm not trying to say that your animals are suffering, but you have not shown the level of responsibility that I would see as proper. I'm sure you love your pets, it's just that love only goes so far without effort. Providing for your pets is the most important aspect of being responsible, and it really isn't fair to go out and buy more animals when you yourself said that you couldn't afford to provide for the pets you already have.
I'm not trying to sound negative, as I would love to see you do the right thing, and take the advice given. No one is trying to pick on you, it's just a matter of people trying to help. Sometimes it's hard to let your guard down when you feel under attack, but it's a sign of maturity, and the advice given will only benefit you and your pets in the long run.

Good luck though, and I'm sure this has been more of a debate than you would have liked, which may have caused some mis-communication. You are young, and still learning, as we all are. It's really tough to put your pride aside regardless of age, and I am not one to speak. But in this situation, I really hope you can take the good and the bad from this discussion, and turn it into a beneficial one.

Take care, focus on the positive, and you'll be just fine. No hard feelings, it's just people trying to help, even if some come across as rude,

i understand i have so much more to learn but im not open to learning from people that present new information to me in a mean way. know-it-all attitudes and putting me down is not a good idea end of story.
I completely understand. You weren't always given a fair chance to take advice, and I apologize on the behalf of those who do not realize their actions were rude. Please do take the good advice though, and ignore the negativity. It means nothing in the grand scheme of things, and you can learn a lot from people here who are not so negative. Kokopelli is a great source of information, and I know he could help you in many ways. Perhaps converse with him through PM's, as I'm sure you would really gain a lot from it. Ignore the negative, and you'll gain more than you know.

This has been like an episode of Jerry Springer... Walmart and everything... lol.

You purchased the snake BEFORE you had anywhere to keep it... that summarizes the situation for me.

FINALLY!!!

Carly, If you truly want to give your snakes the utmost care. Please separate your corns. As was previously mentioned, the stress of competing for space can cause illness and possible cannibalism.
I'm glad you didn't walk into Walmart with the snake hanging around your neck or something, but it still would be a good idea to keep the snake at home from now on.

if everyone on here was as nice as you then i wouldnt have had an attitude earlier in this thread maybe some people on here can learn from you :) (we can only hope so)

hate all of your kind

This has been like an episode of Jerry Springer... Walmart and everything... lol.

you do not have any idea the situation so stay the heck out of it and stay out of this thread!!!!!

Carly,

You need to re-evaluate your attitude towards people. If you look at every statement since your first post in this thread it has been very caustic in nature. The first people who responded just pointed out that if you didn't have proper caging, etc. that it was an impulsive buy. Other than that, they just tried to give you some good, general information on BCI. You have fired back at every other post unnecessarily. I do think that a few were brash with you, but for the most part you have spurred it on. Please look at it from the standpoint of somebody willing to learn, and try to respond in kindness rather than defensiveness.

I think some good points have been raised here considering husbandry and I hope that you will read back through them and take some notes. There are some other great forums for redtail boa keepers as well as many experienced keepers and breeders of redtails on this forum. If you have questions and are open to responses I'd encourage you to continue to post them and keep on open mind to the suggestions presented. My first priority for you would be to make sure all of your animals are housed separately (creating a housing system with shelves, sterilite bins, heat tape, and a thermostat can work great for multiple corns) and are heated properly. There are tons of past threads discussing the issues of cohabitation as well as DIY housing for different sizes and types of snakes. Do a quick search and it will provide a lot more information in a much quicker and, probably, less problematic fashion.

Again, I want to welcome you to the forum and hope you'll stick around to understand that we aren't that bad a group of people.

you do not have any idea the situation so stay the heck out of it and stay out of this thread!!!!!

*does the THIS IS A PUBLIC FORUM SO I'LL POST WHERE I WANT dance*

:dancer:

So enlighten me as to the situation and as to why it was ok to buy a snake before you had any form of housing for it? Seriously, I'm listening. I'm really not an unreasonable person.

Can a 4 and a half foot, 6 inch thick boa fit in a purse :shrugs: must be my mom's gigantic purse, now that I can believe.

I suggest leaving this thread be,
The OP is obviously upset, and I imagine I would be too if I had gotten whiff of some of the replies made here.
If the OP listens, great, all the points were already made and there's no need to repeat them.
If the OP doesn't, repeating said points will still won't really help.
