nice colors but... it looks kinked in the pics :shrugs:

What do you mean kinked, you think he came out too early? I didn't force him out or even touch the egg, matter of fact, I had to search for him in the main cage

I'm sorry you had to search for him in the main cage??? :) susan

I am with Susang..... main cage??? not the incubator?

I ment kink as in spinal kinks.. the spine as places where it looks to be fused or out of place..... like the temps during incubation werent right or the mother is getting abit bred out and doesnt have the body nutrition she should have to produce quality eggs. :shrugs:

Cute baby but sadly lots of kinks!

We incubate at room temp here mostly but we do put the eggs in a separate, prepared container...

Am I understanding you left the ggs in the viv?

No clue what GG's are, i'm guessing you mean eggs..... Here is what I do and have done for last 6 batches of eggs.... (i am in no way saying this is the correct method and I actually should have taken them to a pet store here in Colorado for him to incubate)

After eggs are laid I will take a smaller cage one of those mini carry cages and places bedding (aspen and dirt) and place the eggs in their... again its worked for the last 6 batches but this is my 1st year in Denver and it does get cold here compared to AZ where it was always HOT.....

once i have the mini cages filled with eggs and bedding I place it back into the cage and surround it with bedding inside the cage (my bedding is pretty thick) and wait for the eggs to hatch....

I do this because I BELIEVE AND SEEN the snakes cuddle/warm the eggs to keep them warm

I'm not so sure that temperature is the issue...but I agree that this particular snake appears to have some massive kinking in the spine...about halfway down the back, and right near the cloaca.

She is a beautiful snake, admittedly, but I would watch the rest of the babies to see how badly kinked their spines are. It could be a genetic issue, or it could simply be an individual snake issue. If all or most of the babies are kinked, I would recopmmend breeding the parents with different partners next year, to try and see if it is, in fact, a genetics issue. One or both of your parents may be susceptible to short-tail or kinking issues.

Also...unless I am sadly mistaken...incubating the eggs inside the viv shouldn't be much of an issue. Your incubator would be set for around 85*F...just like the warm end of your viv. Shouldn't be an issue, IMO. The temps for incubation and comfortable housing are so similar that the differences would be inconsequential...from what I understand. I could be wrong, but the main issue would be incubation time. Lower temps cause longer incubation periods. And in the viv...the temps would fluctuate more, causing prolonged incubation periods, for sure...but would it really be causitive of such kinking in the spine? I don't know... :shrugs:
