I voted Yes. Don't get me wrong, I think he's a bit of a pampered and spoiled diva, but he is going to a team on the verge of a SB anyways. Their only glaring weakness was at the QB position, and he does provide some legitimacy there, even if it's not as much as some might think.
It's kind of like the Ravens (pre Joe cool days). You don't need a great QB, you just need a solid defense and run game to make it to the super bowl, and I think the Vikes have that. I think Favre is good enough to contribute, and his leadership will always be relevant, even if he's 40.
We have to remember Lauren, it's the NFC. So they don't need to play the Ravens, Colts, Pats, Steelers, etc... to go to the Super Bowl, they just have to be the 09' Cardinals of the playoffs, because they'll take the division.

I voted "Yes" but with conditions. Brett is a smart guy and should be able to learn any system. I haven't watched any pre-season games, so I haven't seen how he "fits" into the system and how the system "fits" him, so I'm not sure here.

I DO think that Brett gives them some "big play" capabilities that other QB's can't deliver. Example (and I'm picking on my own Cowboys here), Tony Romo is a good QB... but when he HAS TO MAKE THE PLAY... uh-uh... probably NOT gonna happen. Brett CAN make things happen and can rework a broken play on the fly. So, this could be a big plus for the Vikings.

Unfortunately, he's not getting any younger and he just may have played a couple of years longer than he should have...

Having watched him play for the Jets last year, I just can't agree. I think the Brett Favre I knew as a kid is not the Brett Favre we see now. I just don't think he has the playmaking capability that he used to.

I hope I will be proven wrong. I like Minnesota, and was rooting heavily for them in the post-season last year.

Yup, I agree 100%. If Brett tries to super hero it up, then it's over for the Vikings. I just think the NFC is open season for a lot of teams, and the Vikings have all of the tools of a team needs to win the NFC championship. Favre by no means puts them over the edge with his former big play ability, I just think the Vikings are fairly desecrated at QB anyways, so he can at least provide stability, experience, and leadership.
If the Vikings put this season on his back it's over. But of they dance with the girl they brought to the prom (Adrian Peterson), and have Brett there for the occasional slow dance, then they should make a clean run in the playoffs.

Spell check doesn't fix mental lapses I suppose!

LOL... I hope you're proven wrong too! LOL. ;)

Well, having watched Kurt Warner turn things around and have an AWESOME year... on the cusp of being a 2 time SB champion, I really don't want Brett to "fail". I won't rule him out because of his age and I think that with Adrian Petersen taking the "brunt" of things, Brett won't HAVE TO be the superhero, but will still be able to fix broken plays and make good decisions.

As I remember it, he played some great games with the Jets, but sometimes something happens to teams with that "hero" of a QB... sometimes those teams EXPECT them (in this case Favre) to pull them out of the fire EVERY time... while forgetting to contribute themselves. Happened to Elway, happens to Peyton, happens to all the "great ones".

I also think Brett Favre is done, IMO. He has an easy first 5 weeks including Oakland week 1, but once he faces the Ravens in week 6 it's over. He's too old, doesn't have the motivation, and the Vikings themselves just don't have what it takes. He will topple if he even makes it to the playoffs and he just hasn't prepared well enough this off-season to carry a team. I watched the pre-season game vs. the Chiefs tonight and he just didn't look right. Why he got a 2-year, 25 million dollar deal is beyond me, though he'll probably make the money back in jersey sales anyway.

well he only had 3 days to play with the team before that first preseason game.. and in his post game interview thing he said he was extremely nervous.. so hopefully he will get over that and help lead the viks to the super bowl! I'm just hoping his shoulder will hold up on him.. i had the same surgery like 2 years ago and the doc said it would take over a year to have it fully healed.. and it still sometimes bugs me to this day, especially when throwing a football.. but as long as adrian can hang on to the ball, and the defense doesn't have any injuries/suspensions i think they have a pretty good shot at going to the big show!

You make great points and I'm totally with you on the shoulder surgery. My thing, though, is when has Brett Favre ever been nervous; not a good sign. I think he expected the pieces to just fall into place, and now internally he's kicking himself for being so indecisive. The positive is that the pressure of playing bad in the pre-season might make him try extra hard as to not look like fool for coming back. He wants to show Green Bay he's still got it, so hopefully his performance last night is a wake-up call. One good thing is he at least looked normal dropping back and all that, so he's not too old to move around in the pocket. Best of luck with your Vikings, and I hope Brett Favre can get it together before September!!.

i agree with you completely.. he's played in a few super bowls.. a preseason game should have been nothing for him! but i guess with all the media hype i'd probably be nervous if i were him! Once he gets comfortable with the team I'm sure he'll do alright.

One thing that's definitely on his side is that offensive line. If he played for the Lions that would be it, but if they can provide him enough time he may do OK. I'm just skeptical that he's done enough preperation, but time shall tell. At least he's in a weak division, though!.

Voted "no." They're DEFINITELY improved at qb, with Rosenfels previously slated to start. But the O-line isn't what it used to be. Center Matt Birk was a beast and perennial Pro-Bowler. He went to the Ravens. Look at what happened to Seattle when Chris Spencer and Wlater Jones went out for Seattle last year -they became a shell of their former offense (granted Hasselback and others were hurt later, also). And the Vikings special teams allowed a ton of TD's last season, and their punter has less hang time than my bulldog.
The team is pretty solid on defense, but has too many holes to be considered a Super Bowl contender. Like Ricky said, the start of their schedule is cake, so I expect a ton of Favre talk early on but I only see 4-5 "easy" wins after week 5.

I'm looking forward to week 6; Ravens at Vikings. I want to see a little T-Sizzle/Brett-Fizzle collision. Then he has to go to Pittsburgh the very next week to play the hardest hitting defense in football. He's going to need to call his Liberty Mutual agent after that game to get a catheter installed, because he is going to get rocked!. He'll stay retired next year, that's for sure!!.
