Hi,
My corn is a great eater, I feed him frozen thawed hoppers. I was told by some people that a snake even eating F/T will still try to constrict their food before/ while they eat it. My snake just bites it and swallows... is it odd that he doesn't try to constrict?
 
No it's not odd, many snakes don't constrict with frozen thawed. Most of mine are pretty sporadic and constrict sometimes and don't other times. It is no big deal if he doesn't cause the food is already dead.
 
How old is your snake?
Most snakes dont constrict at all when they are hatchlings and sometimes yearlings. But when they start to get to their juvenile/adult sizes they might start constricting. Its ok if you snake doesnt constrict. As long as your feeding it f/t and doesnt constrict, there's nothing to worry about.
 
None of my corn snakes constrict their food, but then I don't tease the with a mouse on the end of forceps. Some of them might then. The only snakes that I have that constrict all the time are my Florida kingsnakes and bull snakes, but they are much more aggressive.
 
of my 4 corns....none do...but when my phantom was a hatchling to about 6 months...he would literally grab,consrict,and more or less thrash about the cage like he was in a UFC fight. now he just comes up to the offering..takes a taste and opens up and starts eating...you wonder if they might "learn" that there is is no need in expending all that extra energy...just eat the d**n thing.???

I Agree...Dont worry, I feed both live and F/T. Your snake knows that it does not need to constrict it. If you want to test him get a pair of large tweezers and hold the F/T up to him. My guess is he will strike and constrict at first.
