Oh, Craigslist...

Lol! Is there even such a thing as a Candy Corn? Like, the actual Halloween candy?
And I've heard of Coral Snow... but Coral corn?

I can't even tell what type of snake this is, but it sure doesn't look like a corn snake.

Looks either like some kind of king, king hybrid or possibly a king/corn hybrid. Can't quite tell from the pictures.

Okay not quite Craigslist, but I'm on Yahoo looking at the answers to the question someone asked about how small of a space a snake can fit through. This is what was listed as the top answer. I'm shocked. I reread it several times, sure I was misreading it, but no I'm pretty sure I'm reading it right. I don't even know what else to say about this. They bought a boa, didn't put it in a cage, then decided they couldn't keep it because it could get under the door so they turned it loose in the middle of a lake??? Are you kidding me? Here's the reply:

The doctors is in, and he thinks he can help!

My son wanted a snake, and so I bought him a boa. I would say, eh, close to the size you currently own. Anyhow, my son let him out of the cage, low and behold he crawled under the door. Mind you, it was closed! That small of a space! They are extremely and I do mean extremely hard to keep in anything that has any space where they might crawl out.

We ended up having to call animal control. It was a nightmare. After a long talk with my son we as a family decided snakes just wasnt for us. We have big lake by our house so we went out on the boat and let him free in the middle of it. I haven't seen him as of yet, but im sure hes out there living somewhere.

Glad I could help!

Wow- these are the kind of people you need to beat. Hard.
He let his BOA OUT IN THE WILD!?
People NEVER EVER cease to amaze me. Ever.

And then beat again just to make sure you slapped ALL the stupid out of them. :twohammer

I wonder if he was big enough to be feeding on small rabbits or chickens (live, of course) they dropped them in the lake too.

Wow. Just, wow. It makes me feel SO good knowing that what I am doing with my "rescue" snakes really does make a difference, even a small one.

WTF is wrong with asking around or contacting the local zoo or animal rescue and ask their advice?

Again, WOW.

It's okay...they are garners not garters so they'll do fine...idiots!

Oh, well, if they are garners then they have nothing to worry about. I heard Garners always supply the best booze at their parties.

I actually did just email this guy and asked if the other three tanks come with it along with UTHs, since he only shows one and as I told him I was SURE he knew better than to cohab these snakes.

Something tells me my question will go unanswered.

I hope the right person will snap them up quickly and do right by them.

Sadly, you probably won't :(

I'm new to snakes but I did a crapload of research before I got my little girl and I still am. I don't get people that just buy a pet without doing any...

I wish I could rescue at least one of the corns. I'd give him a good home, but he's an hour away from me and I don't drive. Hopefully someone gives those snakes a good/proper home!

Research??? You did research before buying??? What's this world coming to!! Wish a few more people would do that....

Omg if I lived closer I would snag him in a heartbeat..... his tail is so thin!! Look at his body!! I can't even handle this right now. It's breaking my heart.

I thought I'd come in with a little ray of sunshine on my Craigslist rescue, Runway, the emaciated corn snake sold to me as an albino (um...snow), living on reptile sand, and about half the weight she should have been.

Pics from her ad:

Here she is weighing in the day I got her:

Nothing medically wrong with her--she just needed someone to feed her. :( She's no longer on a weight gain plan and has shifted to maintenance. She still gets overexcited at even the hint of feeding (I reach in the cage and have to block her with her hide to keep from getting bitten, and taking her out of her feeding tub I sometimes use oven mitts  ), but is very easy to handle once you're holding her and she realizes you're not a giant mouse. I think with more handling she'll settle even more.

So...happy ending for this Craigslist gal. :)
