... My trip to PetSmart just cost me twenty dollars for a small canister of 6 pinky mice and another one of 3 adult mice.

I am not going to be growing my own colony, but I need to knock down the price a little. Can anyone recommend a website where I could buy bulk frozen mice?

I tried to google, but I'm wary of just sending my credit card number out into the void without recommendations.

Something based in California would be best, to reduce shipping. But considering what I just spent for 13 mice, I'm seriously not picky.

Uck. How does one ship frozen mice, anyway? How long does ice even last?

They ship with very insulated boxes, and dry ice. No company that I have ever used has had any trouble getting their mice to me frozen. Even when shipping got delayed an extra day as it did once. So not much to worry about on that side..

My recommendation is the Mouse Factory. Very clean looking mice, vacuum packed in smaller amounts (which you will probably appreciate if you have a smaller collection, as I do) and they are so fresh, they look like they are sleeping. Also one day shipping is very nice..

I recommend The Mouse Factory too. For 60 bucks I get 80 mice....hoppers and fuzzies mixed, and they last me a while. 30 for the mice, about 30 to ship, but its still worth it.....the stores here want one dollar for a day old pinkie. Slightly ridiculous.

The last time I ordered I used American Rodent.... was very nice.... and depending on the state.... no shipping.... might be worth checking out? :)

Mouse Factory. It took me a long time to switch from petstore frozen to show frozen to mail order frozen, but it's so convenient and cheap and the mice are clean and not smelly and uniform and fat. Mouse Factory is in Texas. When they ship to me, the mice sit on the steps all day till I get home at 5:00 and are still very completely frozen. Just order enough to make the shipping cost worth it. They are in small packs and store nicely for a long time.

I also recommend The Mouse Factory. Their unit price is a little higher than some, but their shipping is cheaper. However, the quality of their product is the real reason to buy. Their products are vacuumed packed and are pristine clean.
On the subject of credit cards, I use PayPal. It is the most secure way to buy online.

TMF here, too. If you have a vacuum sealer at home, you can buy a year's supply and divide it up into several packs with a couple weeks' worth each and re-vacuum them up. They'll be pristine as the day you got them when you need them.

I bought a vacuum sealer on e-bay, but then the guy didn't send it, and then didn't have any, so I never got one, but now I keep the mice in ziplock freezer bags in a gladware container and have never had problems with freezer burn since I started storing them that way.

The Mouse Factory is great and the people there give you 100%.

Years ago I placed an order with them and UPS lost it. I called the mouse factory and they sent me another package no questions asked. About 2 weeks later UPS found it. They brought it to me and it was leaking and dripping on the floor. I was so happy....:puke02:

Just another recommendation...I've used RodentPro for many years and have been very satisfied with their mice, shipping and total cost. They will often have specials on certain sizes at terrific savings and I try to take advantage of that whenever possible.

Thanks for your answers, everyone! I'm gonna wait until these mice are all finished and probably go with TMF, just because of the recommendations. I did the math and these things are over five times cheeper than store bought... and that's with shipping!

Hehe. I wonder if I should have them sent to my office, you know, to make sure they're frozen. That would surprise the coworkers. :crazy02:

You can't tell what's in the box from the outside- it just says Urgent Perishable. I wouldn't open it till you got home.

On TMFs website, it shows how shipping doesn't go up much with a big increase in how many mice you get- so that can really cut the cost, making fewer bigger orders.

I would have them sent to the office, or somewhere where they can be taken care of as soon as possible. You don't want them sitting on the front porch all afternoon.
