Oh nooo....

Lacey shed today but hasn't passed the egg. It's about an inch from her vent. I am going to give her a 20 min bath tonight to help stimulate those muscles. I will just wait and see if she can pass her last meal 2 days ago as well... nightmare :(

Oh poor thing! She'll be okay.

I understand how you worry though. I get mad when my fiance stomps near my snake cages because I think he is disturbing them. I couldn't imagine how I would feel in your position, worrying about the little thing.

It will be fine though, I'm sure. You said your husband knows what to do if the egg gets stuck, right? I'll still be praying for you :)

Oh i'm not married lol, but yes he knows what to do to a certain extent. If she can't pass it on her own then surgery would be needed. You can't aspirate hard slugs unfortunatley :(

Oh no... wow... I didn't know that... surgery? That is a scary thought. I really hope it doesn't come to that. Best of luck to you! Why do they become hard in the first place?

Miss Lacey pooped in the bath... I thought she was going to push the egg out but nope. I gently manipulated the egg down a tiny bit further but it's up to her now...

Shes got lots of energy, shes not in any distress and I hope she isn't going to give up on the whole egg thing. Otherwise it's going to be an expensive trip to the vet for me.

Shes a big 3 year old lass aye... And screaming "SHES FAT" reallllly doesn't help in this situation. I am perfectly aware of how important muscle tone and weight are to a female for producing a healthy clutch of eggs.

Elle, I had this experience last year. My giral ate and pooed and egg didn't move. I would swim her everything. I finally just left her alone as if nothing were wrong. I don't exactly remember but 4-6 weeks after first lay she laid one huge hard egg and 10 small hard eggs. I don't know if they came out that way as all of a sudden one day she was skinny again. I found them up under a piece of lava stone she had in her viv. I'll add the one big one was very close to her vent the whole time.

So should I just leave her then? How long should I let her hold the egg in... I don't want her to become distressed or too weak to pass it...

I can't claim the advice as mie I read a thread where Rich Z said most often let nature takes it's course and that he had females go months without laying an egg. I really was in a panic as the egg at her vent was huge, I just kept waiting.
The only ill effects I see is this year I am 90% sure she didn't accept male and she is rather hippy.

If Lacey gets hips I will be freakin devistated. I think they are the most disgusting things to look at (and feel) on snakes. I would actually wisk her off to have surgery NOW to prevent her getting fatty hips. Yuck... sorry I feel so strongly about it lol.

And thats no offence to anyone else, just my opinion. I don't want snakes with hips... I sold a big girl with even bigger hips once before... they were gross and the seller failed to tell me about them until I went to pick her up.

I'm not one for hips either. I saw the picture in Soderburg's (or was it Love's) book of hips and before I even knew what hips where, I knew I never wanted to see them.

I hate the feel of them.. they are rock solid. Absolutly unsightly.

I would be upset if Lacey got hips for my own selfish reasons, but she would still always be my gal....

Well Elle I don't like them either and she didn't develop until early this year. In fact for a brief time I thought she was gravid and she could be. I just never saw evidence of breeding after she'd been with male. The hips sort of just came up over night, I'm not denying she is a fair sized girl, but never hippy before. We'll see the other female bred at the same time is very blue, and another just layed eggs????

YAY! Lacey passed that big hard slug.

I had a couple of very good friends come down to visit today and they had a similar experience with one of their female corns this year. We used a probe sideways to just lift her vent and lubricate her with vaseline. The slug was solid and not moving, she was obviously all dried up. We worked at it for about 10 mins then all of a sudden I felt a pop and the egg had burst inside her. I whisked her into the bath for a swim to see if she would now pass it on her own and she did! (along with smelly poop and the contents of the egg).

I have a good supply of baytril so I'm going to start her on a 10 day course as the egg poped inside her just incase theres any infection.

I'm so releaved and she looks and probably feels so much better.

I'm so happy... I freaked out about the egg bursting, I felt it deflate under my finger. I don't think thats a good thing at all but it certainly made her pass the shell...

At least it's out of her now :D
And you keep them on newspaper anyway right? So you won't have to worry about any aspen getting around her vent and irritating it so that's good :)
