"Old-School" Bloodreds

I'm curious why the morph is called "old-school". I mean, I can take a guess that it's because that morph has disappeared. If that's correct, why'd that happen? Other morphs seem pretty sustainable over generations, so why did the dark black/red bloodred get lost? Or am I just completely wrong in what I think it means?

I think people just really like their brighter counterparts, and haven't been breeding for straight-up bloods anymore. :p Hypo bloods are really big now, or so I hear. And they've been playing with color and pattern morphs on them, too. They've been moving from this, for example, to this.

I believe that the original 'old school' bloods were rather heavily inbred/linebred to achieve the dark red coloring and it was leading to some issues with infertility/non-feeder babies. I may be wrong, however.

Sorry but I haven't had any of the issues you are describing above.

I personnaly believe that there has been so much mixing other morphs with Bloodred, that it's become diluted, so to speak.
Plus, there's the whole "bloodred" vs "diffused" thing. A snake can be "diffused" but not fit the original "bloodred" or "old school bloodred".
I prefer the old school bloodred snakes to the ones that are merely diffused, with out the "true" bloodred" look.

I've never heard of the old school bloodreds having any infertility/non feeding issues.

I've heard of one line of old school bloods that had issues with breeding and babies, but it was one complaint from one person so I haven't invested much stock in it.

I simply think that as focus shifted to making diffused with other morphs, the old school bloods were lost in the mix. A few people still have them though. I've got one myself. It's motley though, so I'm not sure if it counts.

Many of the original Bloodred corns produced hatchlings that were lizard eaters. This made them very difficult to raise and convert to mice. So the stock was out crossed to animals that produced strong health hatchlings and then recovered. The new strain isn't as dark but they don't have eating issues. Some people have taken this stock and line bred for darker reds. So you can still get Old School coloring with new stock health. I think Lycari is right in assuming that it is choice over issues that make the morph not as available. I still have a pair of the dark Bloods from before they were out crossed. Some of the Bloods I produce now have the same look. Hence I don't breed this pair anymore because I don't like skinning lizards. lol

i much prefer the old school style of bloodreds, and that is the type i would like to have someday...i remember when i saw the photo on Don Soderbers website many years ago of the "blood red" and fell in love...HAD to have one (still dont :( )...same with the blizzard.

Like this?

I've got a line of dark bloodreds I refer to as "Oxbloods". Don't know if its the same but they are interesting, nonetheless.

The funny thing is, the only red morph my boyfriend likes is the 'old school bloodred' look. I just made the poor sap look at every single morph listed on iansvivarium! I can't believe this morph would become obsolete!
