Some lady brought me these, (I am a vet tech). She was freaking out because she had found them on her kitchen floor...

They are Texas Thread snakes, a.k.a. Plains Blind Snakes.

Unfortunately she had cut one of them into small pieces and the second she had drowned in alcohol. Oh well, cool anyway.

Sorry to hear about the carnage, just an uninformed person not curious enough to look it up I guess.
 
Yea, she was pretty freaked out... she thought they were some kind of worms. The minute I saw them though I was like, nope, thats a snake. I though she was going to pass out. It was pretty amusing for me. And I might add, the easiest bit of herping I have done in a while. Speaking of... anybody know any good spots here in Central Texas? We had a black king in the lay box the other day, but he left to quick to get any good pictures... And I am hopelessly unfamiliar with the area.

Aww the poor other snakes :( It is so cute.. You know some ladies brought in a ground snake once that was a tad bit bigger than that one, and they where freeking out as well.. Amazing of how a giant human can be so afraid of something so tiny and harmless.
 
Too cute. Pity about them being killed though. What on earth does a snake that tiny eat?

Ya know, I never understood why people are so afraid of snakes. My brother-in-law will break out in a cold sweat at the mention of the word and he is a big Navy man! lol At work, I have a picture of a normal corn on my desktop. One of my co-workers saw it the other day and her face went deathly white and she told me it was the most disgusting thing ever! I looked at it and commented, "It's just a snake." Then added proudly, "That's what mine should look like when she grows up!" My co-worker walked away and didn't talk to me for the rest of the day. I just don't get it.

P.S. - that brother in law is talking about coming here to visit in the near future. I wonder what he will say if he sees the tank...lol!
 
Apparently they eat ant and termite larvae. I was so sad they were dead... we got ants like crazy. I could have kept them very well fed. And since an adult will reach 8 inches, but still not be able to bite, they would have made an interesting catch and release experiment... But anywho, no use crying over spilt milk.
 
Oh my gosh! I totally found one of these years ago. They are just the most adorable things ever. I was up in Castel, or whatever. North of Plano. Picked up a rock and there he was.

It's unfortunate about the lady's reaction. I guess it's good that at least one of them survived. Hearing about the drowning in alcohol makes me want to cry. I couldn't even imagine how badly that would burn.
 
I've never been scared of snakes, but after getting Fran, I'm even worse. I mean, she's like the most un-snake like snake! My mom won't even come into my house now that she's here. C'mon! Its not like she's coiled up and ready to strike the first person she sees!

Years ago I worked at a vet who had a crematory in the garage at the back of the place. One day I found a ring necked snake back there. It was probably there because the garage is always warm even in winter. I was fascinated by how tiny this thing was. The smaller the snake is, the more I'm fascinated! Has anyone ever kept ring-necks successfully?

I would have freaked if had had been in that lady's house and she started killing them! I mean what were they doing, chasing her with teeth bared? Now there's a mental image!

I still can't get out of my head, that someone would do this, to such a tiny snake?!?!? I dun get it?

The other thing is, that when I read it again, the only thing that went through my head, was the nursery rhyme, "Three Blind Mice". I don't know why? Maybe it had something to do with the cutting or, I dun know?
