Our brilliant government is at it again...ban pythons in Florida...

And I honestly CAN'T understand that people are NOT concerned - I just don't get it. Yes, there may come a time when average people finally revolt and say ENOUGH. But when children are raised with certain expectations and beliefs, it is normal for them. The children now are being raised with a different set of ideas about what is normal for freedom, and what is normal government intervention in their lives. They will not be surprised that the government may monitor their every movement by cameras on roads, buildings, etc, or by GPS units in cars and cell phones. It alarms ME, and many people my age. But it will be normal for the next generation to expect government intervention in most aspects of their lives. And the generation after that can expect more. This is about way more than just keeping reptiles, although that freedom is important to me. I don't care WHAT freedom I am being asked to give up - I want to know why, and how it will benefit me or those I care about. I don't want to give up freedoms lightly. They tend to slip away over time, and it becomes very normal to expect the government to take care of us, and police us, in every aspect of our lives. I can understand the decision to give up a freedom presently enjoyed for a reallly clear and important benefit. But I can't understand the lack of concern in the trends I see towards more government and less privacy and less freedom.

Nobody said they have a real chance at banning pet the entire pet trade but they will take what they can in the name of their own ideals. I wouldn't say that anyone is in panic mode right now we are just trying stop any needless bans before they have a chance to get passed by those that are less knowledgeable on the subject.

The argument I always see is that the species they keep will be next. Kathy said it herself, they are trying to shut down the trade...my opinion is that the AR mission is fantasy. So all this "I don't want a ban because I'm next" to me, looks like panic.

Not agreeing with the ban BTW...simply stating, that if it did go through, and it did effect me, I would simply deal with it.

I understand your perspective and respect it.

I do not have children and quite honestly am not concerned about whats left/happening after Iam gone.

Im going to bail to canada anyway (only half joking)

I agree about children. The past few years I am becoming more grateful that I don't have any, although I do have nieces and nephews I care about. I am so sorry that they will never know the freedoms that I did, and their children probably won't even believe the things I got to do as a kid.

I believe (hope) that all of this "1984" stuff will only come to pass long after I am gone - or at least unaware, sitting in some nursing home, lol! So I shouldn't really care so much. I can and will deal with the intrusions however I can. I think it will be only inconvenience for me - but much worse for those who follow. So it is for the younger generation to REALLY worry about.
