So, I stopped by my sorta-local reptile shop (the Scales N' Tails up in Northglenn, not the one in Lakewood which is closer). I needed a Tort person's opinion on bowls and another screen lid. Anywho, they had an Amel Bloodred a.k.a. Fire for sale. You'll never guess how much it was....

$199.99

Seems a little overpriced to me, but I got my Fire plus a Butter, Snow, Candycane, and Amel Motley for $100 off Criagslist.

What is the most overpriced snake you've ever seen? Minus Petsmart and Petco.

Fires were 200 at the reptile show here last year, so for a pet store that isn't expensive. (Pet stores have to mark things up a lot.)

It wouldn't be worth it to me just because I can't see myself paying for a specialty gene like that when I don't breed, but if you could fit it into something, it's not bad, especially for an adult/sub adult.

I didn't get it at any rate. It was pretty, but I didn't need it at this point. I can't see paying $100 for a normal unless I know the hets and get it from someone from here or someone well known.

The two (think one is a charcoal, the other one definately a normal) yearlings in my local reptile store are £100 each. So at the current exchange rate that's about $150!

Much more expensive here in the UK!

Nope us Canadians got ya beat. My local pet store here (Petsmart) has a normal for 199 and a Caramel for 259. We have a total pet too, which I think it was a normal, was 149.

Stupid expensive!

Normals here are from 45-60, albinos=60-65, and have never seen the others! Pet stores are getting the cheapest they can get, I think.
As far as the 'specialties', I have asked a few, and ONE gave me a list, but said, "Whatever price you see is our price, it will be approx. double for you." On that list, it would have made most of the bloodreds, stripes etc be around 100-125 for 6-12 month old Corns! To me, that is too much. Craigslist as mentioned above has been my 'cheapest' resource, but PJC cut a decent deal for 3 at once for the genes they came with.
Please see my "New members" question. I am curious as to what the genes mentioned in that forum would be best used for my 1st attempt (next year) at breeding what I do have, or what one snake would be best added to get some valuable or difficult offspring.

local pet store had a butter for $250. luckily i scored it in a trade, one hatchlings anery for a yearling butter female!

SCOOOOOOOOOORE!

but yep, Canada's prices are pretty outrageous

$199 from a pet store is not that bad.. If I get really high qaulity fires, mine are usually around $150... The ones I am not so thrilled about, get marked to what I consider an appropiate price...

Regards.. Tim of T and J

Wait, thats honestly the price of a fire? I got my 09 female at a reptile show at the end of last year for $15 (no friend discount included). I thought she was a good deal for that price, but guess I didnt realize just how good of a deal it was.
