Hi all . . just got a 4 year old corn snake . . . my first!! The guy I bought him from tells me he's a "PEARL" . . . . I haven't been able to find much on that, but I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about the coloration of a pearl corn . .

He's a pale whitish, NO YELLOW, with a very faint lavender/blue pattern down his back . . also with pale, pale orange on his head . . and RED eyes!

I've been TOLD he's rare, but it doesn't matter to me if he is or not . . I'm in LOVE with this snake either way!!

I'll try to post a pic soon, but if anyone's got any info, please let me know!!!

There was just a big discussion about that

on that other forum. You may want to go there and read about it. But as far as I can remember they said that pearl was a name given to the opal morph awhile ago. It is basically an albino lavendar. It was a pretty big discussion so I can't remember everything said.

Hi, Pearl is an earlier breeding of the Opal. I just got a pair of Opal hatchlings from Rich Z that have alot of color on them, and I also got a female Opal yearling that is all white . He told me that the yearling was formaly known as a Pearl. His newer stock of Opals have much more color, but both the Pearl and Opal are Amel/Lavenders.

This was a name coined by Tim Rainwater a while back in reference to Amelanistic Lavender corns. Some of the Amelanistic Lavenders (Opals) will become pure white as full adults and this was what he had.

He was just rather quick on the draw to put labels on things, shall we say.

Thanks to all of you who replied!! I was leaning toward him being an Opal also, after having read up on EVERY website I could find!! But it's good to know there's people out there to help figure things out!!

I should be posting a picture of "Shinju" tomorrow . . .

If I wanted a white Opal, I'd just get a Blizzard and pocket the other Benjamin! :D

Cute . . u should learn to love the ANIMAL . . not the money.

For me, it's all about the love of the animal . . his personality, his character, the way he is . . I would have EASILY paid a fortune for this one . .

BUT, thanks for the comment.

Don't get me wrong.....

I love Opals, even have a trio. But none of them are white. ;)

When you go to make a post, there's a field down below for attaching files. There's a button next to it that says 'browse'. Click that button, go to where the file is on your computer, and select that one. Then, when you post, it'll wind up in the post. If the image is too large or the filesize is too large, you may have to resize it before you can upload.

Alternatively, just upload it to whatever your homepage is, and give us the link.

Thank you! I just LOVE him!!

Yes, we did get him in Washington, although the man I bought him from bought him from someone online. The man I got him from also said that he is a bit of a rarity due to his coloration and scale pattern . . even for an "opal" or "pearl". I'm not sure how accurate that is, but nonetheless, I'm in love with a reptile!!

Hmm, without seeing a full body shot, that pic reminds me somewhat of some of the Amelanistic Jungle Corns I have seen. Just my opinion, of course.

I promise to post a better pic soon . . I think my boyfriend got some good pics of him wrapped around the trunk of his driftwood this morning . . he's a difficult one to take pics of because he's either all wrapped up at the top of his driftwood or he's so active that all the pics come out blurry!

Oh, and what EXACTLY is an Amelanistic Jungle Corn???
