Seriously, the packaging beats the tar out of RodentPro, but the mice run smaller, in my experience. Jeez, CAV, you have more snakes than I, but my last Cajun order was over $650! I'll have to look over the invoice or call Cooter Johannsen personally!
PS. C'mon, Homer. The MP3 comment about someone you don't know (and has been a great contributer to these boards) was, well... I'll be nice, silly. I'll give you the credit for doing what you seem to believe is right in the face of a system you disagree with. I'll "break the law" and relocate a doomed snake in Georgia, for example. But I'd be honest about it if asked...

Your supply-timed order might explain some things. I buy enough to last for six months or better. Somehow said supply should last at LEAST a year on a few sizes and MAYBE three months on others, regardless of my planning and size calculations.
As for an MP3, I don't know either. I would've said it was a music download, but the tone of the post suggested pornagraphic pictures. But I fully expect a post to follow which suggests neither! Forgive my less than hip non-nerdy computer knowledge, y'all, I know not of what I speak.

One more thing, I did the prices for the least number of mice. Most often it's <100, but in some cases it is for 100 of that particular size. Of course, it is individual prices.
I wish that Cajun and The Big Cheese Rodent Factory had the sizes of their mice listed. I do like that about RodentPro.

on mouse purchasing. It is always good to read others experiences with different companies. I have gotten from Rodent Pro and was very pleased with them but will also look into Big Cheese also.
And as for MP3's. That is a music download format. It allows you to download a 'sort of' compressed amount of music - so you fit more on a CD. People who know what they are doing can download (steal) music they like without having to go out and buy the CD. I believe this is what was being referred to. Personally I don't listen to enough music to be bothered but I guess it is a 'good' (depends on if you are the downloader or the artist who wrote & performed the song) way to get the lastest hits. (I generally prefer the old hits personally)
As for Petsmart or PetCo, I don't have any Petsmarts near me so can't say anything about them, but I do have a PetCo nearby and must say I am lucky in the fact that they keep a clean and healthy envirement for all their 'pets'. I have gotten my mouse & rat colony breeders from them. Also bought my first three corns from them - that's what got me started - now I have 43 of them (all the rest from on-line breeders) but the ones I got from them were clean - ie no mites etc. - and healthy and ate readily. I have no problems buying frozen if I find I am in a bind and short on a size I need or in buying live. So I guess I am lucky to have a good one close by. I have a couple mom & pop type shops nearby but one will not sell feeder mice and the other is not clean at all.
I guess we all have to go where we find it works out best for us and the area we live in.

I have never liked petco or petsmart but i shopped more at petco because they had the feeders i needed. I breed Fancy mice for fun and relieve some of the costs of food by feeding off any mice that i don't sell or are too common a color. I went into petsmart w/ one of my smaller snakes (my runt Alex -10 inches then) and tried to buy a fancy mouse to use for breeding but they wouldn't sell becasue i has a snake although the snake was smaller than the mouse LOL I just laughed and left. Another time i was told that by wanting to buy some mealworms for my geckos i was going to kill them. Even though 5 months on a mealworm only diet hadn't killed them yet LOL and they are still going strong

Feeders are $2.25 each! and they spread a virus that killed off all the other mice from my line that i had brought w/ me from Virginia. I am only used to paying $1.19 at petco LOL so i'm going to switch to frozen from Rodent Pro. The reptiles are taken care of great and the prices are decent and actually cheaper than VA on everything except feeder mice! They also have some unusual animals too. Like a Patternless Albino Python! It is so cool they got him donated for free and he's being sold for $400 but the reptile guy is planning on buying him.
I'm going to post a poll about which is the best online rodent supplier next.

What kind of papers are y'all signing at Petco and Petsmart? I don't buy mice anymore as I breed my own, but all my foundation breeders came from Petco's and Petsmart's. I had purchased several at a "Mom and Pop" and they had poor health and poor production, so I went to the Chains. I was asked to sign papers, but they knew I was buying the mice to breed feeders. I read the papers I signed, and the ones from Petco just said that I had read their care sheet on how to care for mice. (I just skimmed it, but I did see it) and the one from Petsmart said I had read the care sheet and intended to keep the mouse not feed it out (no problem there, I kept the mouse as a breeder, not a feeder).
I paid almost $5 each for fancy mice from Petsmart (Only purchased there for colors, I also paid almost $20 for a pretty blue rat there) So they are pretty cost prohibitive to purchase feeders.

I have never yet fed my snake a live mouse....I have always stuck with frozen-thawed. But...I have decided that sometime in the future when my snake reaches adulthood, I might wanna try a live mouse JUST ONCE...JUST TO SEE him in action. I would wait about 2 weeks from his last feeding before attempting this...to make SURE he is good and hungry, and of course I would keep a CLOSE EYE on what is going on. If things weren't going well for him...I would DEFINITELY INTERVENE!

I would say the very fastest way to get a snake harmed by the bite of a mouse is to try to feed an adult mouse to an adult snake that has not had the practice of catching and subduing mice over its lifetime.
I would NOT recommend that action on your part, my friend!

Well...hmmm...maybe you're right Darrin. I just thought that the ability to catch and constrict a live mouse is an instinct that all snakes have...kinda like the instinct they have to always hide when you come in the room. Your pet cat never loses the instinct to pounce on things...no matter how many years you keep it in captivity. I thought that I could be as cautious as is necessary...but maybe its a bad idea.

I am fortunate in that the local pet shop near me has good quality feeder mice, as well as frozen. Their reptile cages are clean, and kept that way. I'll buy from them. Nobody hassles you for buying feeders, they'll buy hatchlings from local breeders for a good price, and they'll give discounts to snake owners that buy large quantities of mice.

I have raised a LOT of snakes on solely frozen/thawed. When I get a sudden non-feeder, I often try a live pink or fuzzy...IF the snake in question is under a year of age! I am with Darin on this part... unless it's a w/c, more often than not, an adult snake that has never had live food in your care will strike defensively at the animal if at all. You may well have a snake freaking the heck out at the presence of a live rodent when it is used to sniffing, finding the head, and eating leisurely. If you must persist in your folly, try a really small food item (like for an adult, a fuzzy) and let your snake "learn the ropes." Still, I see no benefit if the snake eats f/t readily.

Yep, I'm back for my first post (perhaps) of the calendar year. The cawns are thawed and eating with great vigor! After first clutches, I'll mail you with photos of who I can part with... I have 16 adults (or subs) to go, but keep in mind, none of the c/bs have ever had live food!
