Philadelphia Dog Show! DU Warning!!!

I have and (unless I adopt a stray) will always have pure-bred dogs. I hate the idea that it's seen as "snobbery" to have this mindset. I have known and loved a ton of mutts, but when I want a dog, I look for specific traits and look to stay away from others. Since growing up with a relative's American bulldog, then seeing Petey in Lil' Rascals and "Homeward Bound's" Chance, I always thought I'd like one of those. Then my girlfriend at the time told me she knew a girl whose husband just produced a litter. We went to "see the puppies." I took home this:

My neighbor's called her the "Pokey Little Puppy," from the kid's story. She's the sweetest dog in the world, but has grown and now people who don't know dog body language are often afraid of her when I take her on walks:

But this dog wouldn't bite a burglar! Certainly, not if he so much as had a tennis ball, and forget it if he has a Frisbee! The greatest trait is how good she is at learning tricks. I wouldn't keep trying to teach 'em if she didn't pick 'em right up. It would take another paragraph to tell about all the commands she knows, as well as the little nuances. Dogs are the the best.

I was digging for a pic of my old friend's dog, Jake. Pure mutt, but that dog was perfect for her and my active lifestyle! The selective breeding we've done with man's best friend is proof that everything I even consider doing in the snake room is doing the Lord's work. ;)

Awesome! Looks like you had fun! I just watched this on tv a couple of hours ago. Shows like this always get me in trouble, I start thinking about getting a dog again :) The Bulldog was GORGEOUS!

Elrojo- you have an adorable dog! As for the "snobbery" debate - I can see both sides of the argument. My own personal rule is that if I'm going to go to a breeder and spend large amount of money on a purebred showdog, then I have to also rescue a dog from the pound or a kill shelter. Now, I won't bring just any dog home admittedly, I'm very picky, but I have a mutt right now, and she's basically my soul mate in dog form (she chose me, which worked out well).
I can see though how people become attached to one breed, and I don't think there is anything wrong with that!
Actually, my Dad is kind of weird - once he has a breed he won't have the same breed again, simply because he says that a dog of the same breed reminds him too much of the old dog and it upsets him.

And I don't know how the dog pooping in the ring affected the judgement - although I can understand that these dogs are supposed to be well trained and not have accidents, you also have to keep in mind that the show was inside and none of the dogs were allowed to leave the building once they came inside. There were special pens with woodchips for them to go in, but dogs can be so picky - or maybe the handler didn't get the dog to the pen before going into the ring. It might just simply be the fault of the handler.

You know what I was thinking today, have you guys seen the movie Best In Show? It is SO funny! I can't remember if I own it or not- I'd be in the mood to watch it today, though. I have to check.

Poor Eugene Levy! His cuckolded character was one of the highlights of that film.
