Photographing Venomus Snakes...

Those are vipers indeed. Vipera berus. In Europe we also have one other (none viper) venemos species. It's the Montpellier snake (Malpolon).

No worries. I use a 28-90mm right now and stay well out of range. I'm trying to decide between a couple of different Sigma lenses right now that I really like, but I'm not sure which ones would work best for what I'm looking for. I hate making these decisions. :shrugs:

I can't believe I just found this thread. I'm glad there are people willing to go in the field and take these pictures. Very envious really the whole time in lived in the desert I saw only a couple venomous snakes, but would have loved to see more.

Over on the FieldHerpForums they have a passion for the Sigma 105mm Macro. They're using them on Nikons, Canons, the works... The lens, having used a friend's, is great. It runs upto about $400 brand new, and its proven VERY hard to find a used one out there.

That's ok Paul. To tell the truth, my snake has turned nearly solid black with some weird tan markings and she is nowhere near as pretty as she used to be. She's still cool, though.

Just a new quick question. I am thinking about buying a reflector for my new flash that allows for bounce just to get a better, softer light. Do ya'll think that this would be easier or should I just go with a "over-the-top" velcro-on softener?
