PLEASE HELP!

if he only weight 4.8 grams, he needs something to eat that weighs about .5 grams. Your 1.7 gram pinkies are way too big. They would be ideal for a snake weighing 15 grams.

Personally, I've never seen a 4.8 gram corn snake or known anyone with one. All I can say is good luck with that and if there is ever a "Next Time" maybe you'll opt for something bigger. A breeder or seller with any integrity whatsoever would not sell such an animal in my opinion. They should be ashamed of themselves. And you should give them an ear full for doing so.

Are you sure your scale is working properly and on grams? If correct on the weight, I'd go to the vet. Some serious intervention is needed by now. I'm so sorry you and your little one are dealing with this...

We had a pair of amel motley twins at RbM that hatched out at 2g each. They ate day old pink heads for a few meals before eating the whole pink.

Yes the scale was set to grams. It was the same one used to measure the pinky. Neal was bought at Petsmart as a gift for me. My bf had no idea how difficult hatchlings could be. We tried feeding Neal heads but he wouldn't touch them. He was very disinterested when we wiggled a head in front of him.
I'm going to try to set up an appointment at a local vet and I'll share what happens.
Thanks you all for your input.

Well...

We visited the vet and the only course of action that he saw was to tube feed him liquid food and hope he would keep it down. 5 minutes after leaving the vet he regurgitated it.

At this point I'm going to just keep trying with pinkie heads and hope he eats one.

Thank you all for the support and advice. We will update you on what happens.

You are doing all that you can. try to stay calm and focused. Sending warm vibes your way!

Ouch! :(

Sorry for your heartache. Been there. It does suck. Nothing else you could do but pray & keep trying.

NEVER give up hope! Remember, NOTHING is impossible!* I had a hatchling that refused all food for almost three months before it passed. I was hopeful up to the last day. Sometimes, it's just not meant to be, but ya NEVER KNOW! Which is why you have to keep trying!!

*(On a personal note, I checked out of this world on 3/8/88 at the age of 27 and was revived, after 2 minutes of having flatlined due to a heroin overdose, and was also very pissed-off because I really didn't want to be here! But here I am, 28 years later and still going strong despite the "hopeless & impossible" prognoses given by various so-called medical professionals over the years. I also ran 6 NYC Marathons 10 years after being told I'd NEVER RUN OR PERFORM ANY CALISTHENICS EVER AGAIN after a serious accident in the subway resulted in multiple torn ligaments in my right knee that very same year!! I know this is a totally different situation, but I'm sure you get the point! As Yogi Berra pointed out, "IT AIN'T OVER TILL IT'S ALL OVER!")

do you move him to a separate cage for feeding? how long do you thaw his food for? i might be able to help if you tell me

Like Karl has already said, I've answered this on previous posts. Neal was left with the food overnight, in a separate container, before we put him back into his normal habitat.

Hi there Carnelian! How ya been? :crazy02:

Just wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you and your little sneaky one! I hope you guys are OK. I also hope that your next attempt - if there is one - is productive! Hang in there!!! :spinner:

Thank you Axis,
We have been letting Neal rest given that he went through another regurgitation. We took him to the vet on Friday and are planning to feed him either Wednesday or Thursday of this week. He is still active at night, searching for food I assume. We are going to attempt to feed him pinky heads from now on because the risk of regurgitation with a whole inky is too great. He is too small to handle them.
I am doing ok. Neal is definitely adding stress but we are doing all that we can. The vet visit costed more than Neal himself but I thought it would be worth it.
I will give updates to the situation if it changes.

Appreciate the updates Carnelian!

You are a very special person, as is your s/o who gifted Neal to you. As I might have mentioned before, should Neal survive this ordeal, your relationship with him will be stronger than you can imagine! If not, at least you tried! I may just be a fading romantic but I still believe it's better to have love and lost than never to have loved at all!

You and your little sneaky one remain in my thoughts & prayers! I know there are many others who have read this ordeal who are also pulling for you guys!!

Hope you had a great holiday weekend!!! :crazy02:

Omg omg omg omg!

I just tried dawn and then boiling it slightly (pinkie head), didn't take him out of the cage, and tried wiggling it at him, and BAM in 5 seconds he pounced. Now I know I shouldn't associate feeding with his cage, but at this rate its much much better that he eats!

I'll check back in an hour, but I think he'll eat and keep this one down!

FINGERS CROSSED!

Alexis

AWESOME!!!

My fingers (AND TOES!!) are crossed ALSO!!!

Yogi was RIGHT! ("It ain't over till it's all over")

Most importantly, because you never gave up!!! :dancer::dancer::dancer::dancer:

Now hopefully, he'll keep it down. For THAT, I will definitely say a little prayer, as luck has nothing to do with it!!!

Don't worry about feeding in the cage. It just doesn't matter. I'm over the moon happy you found the magic formula!
