Poo patrol

Well we both ( Fang and I) felt comfortable enough to get handled to day.
She is quit the coil around one arm and going over my shoulder while I turned a few things over looking for poo, I only found pee. I kept her out for about 5mins but she didn't seem in much of a hurry to get back in her viv.

Ok she ate Late Thursday so how long before I can expect for her to poo? When would too too long be? I notice the lump is around 8" from her tail and don't know where her anus would be located? Oh yeah she's 5-6'
Any and all help welcomed!
Thanks,
Bill

Janine,
No she's eating young rats or two adult mice at a feeding.
So it should be big and easy to see????
Bill

this guy has an adult i think,

they all digest at different rates. Mine adult for example is usually pretty consistent and poops about 3-4 days after its eaten.

You mentioned in another of your threads that you keep your corn snake at quite cool temperatures, this will slow down digestion and getting your poop will take a little longer.

The anus, on snakes is known as the cloaca, and is quite obvious after you've first noticed it. Try googling that and im sure you'll find a pic wiht one ringed or something to make it more obvious

regards
Tom

Oh yeah, I played with putting some magazines on top of the warm side with the lamp and it raised the temp to 82-83 degrees. Humidity is now up to around 60% as well.
I am thinking about UTH but she has gone this long and is health so why change??????

I think I know what the cloaca looks like.
It's a flap about 8" from her tail?? If so the lump is almost right on top of it.

Good news she did her business! Well not that great when I had to pick it up but now I have one more sign she is doing well here! I guess I can feed her again on Thursday or Friday as normal.
You can tell I am new when such little things excite me.....lol
Bill

My snake is large like yours. When she is almost ready to poop you can see the bulge at her cloaca. If we "want" to encourage pooping we handle her, careful where ya point it. It gets her going.

Thanks Alan!!!
I did handle her today and she was very active till she did her business.
Now she seems more laid back! Oh yeah I noticed her tail sticking up and out came the bony looking stuff, well liquids too, Yuck! I can handle this for the joy she brings!!!
I notice that her set-up is different from the recommended, heat lamp vs UTH but this is what she has known for the last 5 years and she's doing great!! Should I, would you change her lifestyle???
Bill

My concern would not be what she is "used to" but what is best for her.
If the heat lamp is doing its job and all your tempatures are fine then yes, if it ain't broke don't fix it. But if the UTH could do a better job then go with that :shrugs:

I use UTH or cable at the back of tub or heat lights. Do you know how much your snake weighs? If it is 5.5' you could feed it every 10 days to two weeks.

Ok so the lamp vs UTH is not a battle for me at this young stage on these forums!!!
I think I might go to UTH have to drive to another City for fair price but going anyways to buy girlfriend a Sunglow (and so it spreads...lol) and another for me if a cute one grabs my fancy!
I guess these rheostats as they show how to build on here are the best choice for heat control???
I have a few questions sorry!!!!!!!!
I see these pre-made plastic vivs about 18"x10" (guess)? How do you heat these?
Are these just a waste or would a few 5.5 gallons to start be a bigger waste???
Thanks

SUSANG........Not sure how much she(Fang) weighs, must be at least 3-4 lbs???
Why would a longer feed interval be better? She's not fat, bulky and I think at least six feet now that I see her stretched out in her 3' long viv!
I really am thankful for all help!
