Poor Cyrus

snakemom1961

Spring is here!
We had to take our cat Cyrus to the vets yesterday because once again in 4 months he's become ummmmm stopped up.
The poor boy was obviously miserable and we had to keep him over night so they could make sure he was able to relieve hisself this morning. He apparently was dehydrated as well so that helped with the being constipated.
They now have him on a special diet that costs 13 bucks a small 4 lb bag. It's very high in fiber and I've yet to find anything over the counter that high in fiber (11%).
We had our cats on purina one for sensitive systems because Cy has always been one to get sick with pretty much anything he eats. So, here's hoping this will be what he needs to become our healthy boy once again.

Hey sorry to hear you cat wasn't feeling well..Hopefully this food is just what he needs..I hope everything goes smoothly for ya..

Aww, poor guy! I know what its like to have to buy the special food. My kitty gets crystals in her urine (which in turn causes her to pee everywhere except the litter box and eventually leads to bloody urine) so she's on the expensive stuff too (I buy the bigger bags...$35 for 10 lbs.).

Hopefully the food will help your kitty like it helped mine. Good luck!

Thanks all for your well wishes. The vet also found some blood in his urine and has prescribed an antibiotic. I was hoping to find something a bit cheaper with the same amount of fiber but no such luck. It sucks having 2 cats with one on a special diet, but we'll do what we need to, to help Cyrus be the happy boy we know he use to be.(oh wait that may mean having to get rid of PITA, the queen of the house who torments him all the time)...LOL

If the fiber is the main difference, maybe you could ask your vet if you could just add some fiber to some kind of canned food that is cheaper, and feed him a decent dry food as well.

And maybe you could also grow some of the grasses that cats like to chew. I am growing wheatgrass for us to juice, and offering some to our cats to chew as well. But our main "cow - cat" grazer prefers the grass growing in the front yard, of course! He is not allowed outside, so when I see him crying by the door, I have to out and yank some pieces of grass for him. It is so funny to see how excited he gets when I give him a few pieces to chew.

That's a great idea Kathy. Thanks so much for the advice. I'll call them tomorrow as I'm about to head for bed now(I work 3rd shift).
Thanks again!
