Popsicle - amel stripe

So my 8 year-old sister, my boyfriend and I went to our local reptile expo this weekend. I'm the main snake/critter lover of the three, but they both are interested as well. It was the first reptile expo for all of us.

I was looking for a female western hognose, and my boyfriend had looked over some corn snake morphs and was thinking he might get one if it was a good deal.

I ended up with the hognose I wanted, my boyfriend ended up getting a really lovely high white California kingsnake, AND my little sister got an amel stripe, whom she has named 'Popsicle'. Since neither of the other two snakes are corns, I'll post their pictures elsewhere, but in the meantime, here are some pictures of Popsicle.

She's really jumpy - far more skittish than my corn snake, even though they're about the same age. She also had a bit of shed stuck on her, but I helped it off and she looks good now.

Very nice! I think I appreciate striped corns a little bit more every year; I've never seen an amel stripe I didn't think was pretty :)

I have not seen a stripe morph that I haven't liked. I think they look so streamlined!

We took Popsicle out for a very short handling session and just for comparison's sake, I also took out my amel, Wilma. (They aren't living in the same tank or anything!) Here's a picture of the two of them. Also, Popsicle has already started to relax, so I bet she will be a nice calm snake soon.

Popsicle just shed and her oranges are really coming in! She's still a feisty little snake, but we enjoy her nonetheless. She's grown a LOT. I weighed her after her shed, and she's now 44 grams. Here's a picture of her next to a pencil for size comparison (this is also her true color):

She's pretty hard to get a picture of because she's so wiggly, but putting her in a tree usually helps:

She's adorable! I love amels. I have the same issue with mine- they justy don't sit still for pictures!

Thank you! My other amel is as calm as could be! She'll happily sit in my hand or whatever I place her on, but this one is a squirmy monster!

I've got a similar issue, she stays still long enough for me to get the camera focussed, then she moves just as I click to capture D8

Well, it's been forever since I've posted some updated photos. We had 'her' probed a while back, and it turns out 'she' is a he! My younger sister did not think the name Popsicle fit a male snake, so he was renamed to Blaze. I was cleaning his tub today and he was keeping an eye on me.

And then I moved his paper towel tube:

I still like the name Popsicle for a boy...but Blaze id nice too. Amel stripes rock!!! :D I should start a progression thread for my Nigel, but I'm still figuring out the posting of pics...

Thank you! I like how the stripe/motley gene gets rid of the white borders. It really seems to brighten up the various morphs.

It's really easy to post photos. Upload your photo using a photo hosting site like Photobucket or Picturepush. Then right-click the uploaded photo and select "Copy image location" and then when you open up a new post here, click the little button that looks like a mountain and then paste what you copied.

There's also a 'testing' section at the very bottom of the forum if you want to play around with it and see if you can get your photos to work.

Blaze is turning into quite a nice snake. He used to be quite flighty and somewhat strikey, but now he never even rattles his tail. He's still somewhat wiggly to hold, but he no longer seems intent on escaping.

He's had a couple of regurges the last few months, so I've had him on small meals, but he's finally back up to the mouse size he should be eating.

And I forgot to add that one of the things I love about Blaze is that he almost never hides. He's always roaming all over his tank. I put in some branches for him to climb and he certainly uses them! He does not shy away if you walk by his tank or look at him.

Blaze is turning into one of my favorite snakes. Even though he has plenty of hides, he always chooses to be visible and exploring his tank. I gave him two different taller branches because he seems intent on going up. He usually is all curled up at the top of this branch. He will also come up and investigate when I open the tank. He seems to 'enjoy' coming out. I'd like to get him a taller/bigger tank.

It's probably just the season that is making him so active, but he hasn't refused food. He also will often do the jerky dance with my hand when I take him out, which I think is hilarious!

I took him and one of my other male snakes, Orville, out together and Blaze was SUPER interested in him, but Orville got one whiff of him and nearly flew off my bed.
